So, who's playing it? I got a Trailblazer pack a while ago and just gave out the beta keys to my favored minions this afternoon.

I don't know, I really do not like the look of Everquest next compared to Everquest 2...

It's going to take a lot to get me away from GW2.

Aesthetic concerns are a fair point. At this point I won't even touch a game that has WoW-style graphics; regardless of genre or reviews.

I really enjoyed the Aesthetic of EQ2, and it sucks they shifted so far away from that. I REALLY enjoyed the realistic graphics, it's what immersed me so much.

Hopefully Sony at least does the classes right. The way they had classes done at the release of EQ2, I think was one of the biggest turn offs for people. You shouldn't have to reach level 20 to start your real class.

They also didn't add the beastmaster until after I stopped playing of course....

We'll have to see as more time goes on, but I'm very skeptical to say the least.

The girlfriend and I plan on playing it...but after the "wonderful" experience with Elder Scrolls Online, I'm nervous. She's more hopeful than I am.

Aesthetically, I think it looks pretty cool...but I can't say I like it more than EQ2.

All I know is that if I can't play my Froglok Guardian, I'll be upset

Ohhh, looks like EQN will be using the same engine as Planetside 2. Neat!

I am going to check out the release version; I am still on the fence about Landmark. I have Space Engineers to tickle my 'buildn'stuff' fancy.

Meh, I don't really know anything about the series, but I think Minecraft is far better than this game

That's one thing my girlfriend is worried about. She loves her healer and her shaman...

I wont get far in this game.

Without a Tank/Healer/DD/Support dedicated roles... it makes content bland.

That is odd, I haven't received a PM yet. I'm sure it must be an error.

Minecraft is a game in the same sense that a pail of Legos are a game.

Age and player-base.
I played EQ as my 2nd MMO. It was good, but didn't hold me.
EQ2 was better, but by then, lots of other MMOs were out, and took my time away from it. I play through as much content as I can, and the collections thing in EQ2 kept getting in the way. Player-run stores was a nice idea, and they changed it a few times. It was really the voice acting that killed it for me. Being greeted by a NYer was old very quickly.

Recently started playing in the Landmark Beta and am thoroughly captivated, I am Sarku on the Understanding server and my claim is on the edge of the Old Growth Forest due South of the Portal on Point island ... feel free to pop by and use the facilities if you're in the neighbourhood.

Depends what you like about Minecraft, for me it's the building and Landmark has some much more sophisticated building tools allowing for some beautiful results. Mobs and caves haven't been introduced yet but they are on the horizon (this is a Beta that actually feels like a beta) the only thing I haven't seen mention of is any redstone equivalent, although there are rumours ...

By the way, this is what I built after my first week ... building is a steep learning curve but even while you're on it you can produce some pretty results:

(Landmark has taken its toll on my Minecraft habit though)

It's not actually very closed at all, you can buy permanent access quite cheaply or, if you are strapped for cash or aren't sure it's the sort of game you'd enjoy, there are frequently YouTube channels giving away beta keys ... though you'd need to search for them.

If you want to know more a visit to https://www.landmarkthegame.com/home would be worth your while.

While being interested in the game (love EQ 2!), I don't feel like paying 20+$ without having had a look at it first

That's why I like F2P games like Rift. I was able to get into the game for a week and then started buying stuff with real money because I liked it!

Well there are loads of videos out there that will give you an excellent flavour of the game. One thing that it isn't is Everquest, it's a sandbox game with (at the moment) a focus on building ... think Minecraft with unbelievably good graphics.

cant really fault them for giving early access to people that are more involved in the gaming community since they want to get word of mouth going

You get beta access by visiting the website and buying one of the three packages, there's no invitation to participate. Communication is via their forum and (once a week) YouTube.

As a veteran of EQ (started playing that at release in '99! - game is 15 years old now and still going) and one who spent a lot of time in EQ2, I'm definitely interested.

I love the world of Norrath, even if it is a copy and paste job of Tolkien and D&D. It had charm, and I started tinkering around in EQ1 again now that it's free. Horribly dated and ugly game graphics wise, nowadays. But very nostalgic to see it still going, even saw some old players I used to raid with still at it. They're level 100 now, lol, I quit at 70.

EQ2 was fun, but IMO unplayable in the long run without 3rd party macro programs to automate combat. Their system required like 2-3 hotkey bars with 12 hotkeys each, totally ridiculous and punishing on your wrists. I know they wanted to make it more action based, however it was quite a lot of work to actually play the game. But it had excellent graphics, and I loved the player homes.

I hope they are able to make a game that capitalizes on what was fun about the original game: the massive sense of exploration and dungeon crawling in a highly detailed and lore-rich world, and socialization, but without the utterly punishing grind original EQ was. It was quite an immersive game and pretty much laid the groundwork for every MMO to come after.

That being said I'll never spend 12+ hrs a day raiding on weekends, or grinding like a maniac as I used to. EQ is a hardcore game and I haven't got the time or energy for that kind of a time-sink.

I'll also echo Ouze's comment about the graphics style...I hate that cartoonish WoW graphics style. It's awful. I'd prefer a more realistic style, and it doesn't look like they're going for that this time sadly.

Agreed...
BUT then with free to play games you never know when they will stab you in the back and confront you with huge amounts of grinding or paywalls.

Overall I like the p2p model, since I can trust the game to not squeeze me for more money.
