So this what is currently on order. Was wondering if i was on the right track for more of a generic type list.

Daemon prince, 3x tactical csm, 3x chaos rhinos.
I have plans of buying a few more pieces in the future but this is what i ordered. I also think im going to stick with a nurgle theme.

Extras to be added, oblitarators, a heldrake and 2x units of plague marines.

Stop now and get a refund chaos are one of the weakest armies out there and unless your going for the cheese three heldrakes and bikers build your gonna get stomped alot.

Only BA and DA are in line with chaos all the other armies are far stronger.

I've been a chaos player since 2nd ed and I tell you this codex is a disappointment.

If you're aiming for a middle-of-the-road fluffy nurgle list, you seem to be on the right track. I might just suggest getting another HQ option, as daemon princes get expensive fast, and you may want those points elsewhere. I'm not saying what you have is the best, but it shouldn't be the worst. You seem to play what you want, so there's not much else I could add that without being pushy.

(Avidly awaits for someone to tell me I'm wrong)

Honestly, play what you want, it's your money. I for one am tired of seeing the "just take Nurgle" stuff for Chaos; what if you don't want Nurgle? Field units of CSM, field Chosen, field Helbrutes - play what YOU want to field for a force that fits your theme and style.

Consider getting and/or making some Chaos Spawn. They can look great all nurgled up, and are pretty good as road blocks or meat shields.

And did the OP ask if he should play another race and just abandon what he already has?

Seriously, these boards are full of CSM players who win games, I won just yesterday. You've played since '99, when was your last game? 2000?

Yes, Chaos does win games. Another CSM player at my FLGS went 37 - 4 with his CSM army over a 5 month stretch. He dominated our local tournaments. He switched to Tyranids after the new Codex came out and is not doing bad with them either.

Honestly, a 1000 point list structured around a DP and 3 squads of CSM is not horrible, it's just not optimal. You will struggle against Eldar and Tau, and you will figure out how to win games against other armies. Give yourself time to learn and you will be alright.

As far as plague marines go, they are a tough unit and you will see the differences between them and CSMs right away. Heldrakes make some awesome attacks and can eat most infantry. Obliterators are outstanding.

To sum up: you are on the right track. Consider the following for later down the road:

- Psychic powers for the DP

- Cultists to act as meatshields

- Typhus to make them into zombies

- Spawn to move up the board quickly

- Bikers for their high toughness and ability to take marks

- Be'lakor for his psychic mastery

How about you stop now and quit giving gakky advice. Chaos are okay. They're not amazing, but they're perfectly fine for fun, casual games. I don't run Heldrakes or bikes and I do alright. Not as well as my Marines or Guard, but I do alright.

Ignore everything this man just said. (ok, the codex was a collection of missed opportunities and some outright fail, but its still good.)

Also, why play nurgle and not get Typhus? That's one of the coolest figure GW has made. And he gives you plague zombies! That's two wins right there.

lol.

Anyways, what you're doing is a fine start. If you're going to go nurgle, what I'd recommend in addition to what you're starting with is to get a special weapons upgrade pack of some sort (more melta or plasma guns, but maybe you'll be fine if you go every other squad), and a nurgle bitz kit of some sort. GW doesn't have anything official for this, but there are third party bitz options that will serve. Also, get yourself some greenstuff. You can make a nurgle army by taking regular CSM and painting them green, but it's going to look even better if your plague marines look more like plague marines, instead of just green-colored CSM.

I'd agree, though, that the demon prince might not be the best buy. Firstly, you're going to very likely want a nurgle lord, as he makes plage marines troops, and that second HQ slot has a LOT of competition, whether from something slightly more generic (like a nurgle sorcerer) or something more specific (like a nurgley version of Huron). It's not that DPs are bad, per se, so much as they're sort of just another beatstick in a slot that can give you better synergy elsewhere. If what you really want to do is to field a nurgle DP, it won't kill you, though.

Many people on these boards don't seem to comprehend that winning a game doesn't mean everything. The OP clearly had a reason to buy Chaos. Perhaps he likes the background; maybe he likes the models; maybe he just wants to play against a friend who has SM and isn't too fussed about winning every game.

Not everything revolves around "stomping" people. So don't upset others by giving out terrible advice like this.

I would say that is a good start, but I completely recommend a Lord as a second HQ option. He opens lots of options that have been said and he is a beast if armed correctly. Also play what you want to play, I win games at my local store with chaos. Chaos is a very fun army to play and skill comes with practice, I'm still losing and learning from it all the time
