Subject: If GW can make a plastic Imperial Knight then I want my plastic Thunderhawk!!

We've heard all the arguments, its been going around for years. You can't make plastic moulds that large, big kits don't sell, it wouldn't be feasible, Forgeworld already make one....
Well I'm hoping that this is the start of a new era. Now that GW see that people want to buy big kits, and are happy to have such large models as centerpieces to their collections I think it's about time for a plastic T-Hawk!
~People paid £60 for Stompa's, now they're paying £85 for a Knight. I reckon people would go as high as £100-110 for a Thunderhawk.
~Plastic and Mouldsize wise it can be done. The armour plates along the side of the Thunderhawk don't have to be one piece, it can come in sections. Plastic cost-wise it can be done too, there wouldn't be many more kg of plastic in a Thunderhawk compared to a Stompa or a Knight.
~They can make a better detailed model than the Forgeworld one, just like GW did with the Baneblade. FW had a resin one of those, the plastic one still sold tonnes of units.
~I want one, I might even buy two.
So would you buy one? Would GW ever take the plunge?
The game has gone from the only flyer being a landspeeder (which was a skimmer) to now almost every army having flyers!

Yeah there really is no excuse not to make a plastic kit, the forgeworld one is old and the mold isn't as good as it once was and frankly it's too expensive for something used so infrequently.

Question is, why are you not buying the FW version?
The way GW is pricing things, a plastic Thunder Hawk will just cost as much as a FW version or damn close to it. So you are better off getting the FW Thunder Hawk.

Considering it's the SM entry in escalation and that's considered "normal 40k" by GW....

True, too big for a normal game, but perfect for a game of Escalation, and very perfect for Apocalypse, which is where all the super-heavies really belong!

I'd rather buy a plastic model. More details, less fragile, and much cheaper. A plastic T-Hawk could cost as little as £100, which is ¼ the cost of the FW model. Even if it was ½ the cost it would still be worth it for a better product.

Sure, I'd like one too. But for that price? I can think of several places GW could stuff that idea.
Also, the idea that a T-hawk could be considered "normal" 40K is... terrifying, to be frank.

Oh, I very much agree.
Unfortunately it is unlikely that they would price it at cheaper than £200 given its size.

The size gap between a Knight and a Thunderhawk is pretty vast. The Baneblade is closer in size, and that came out back in 4th. I think it'd be neat, but I don't think it's ever going to happen.

I would love to own one. For collectors, it’s one of the big things that’s always been with us. Not just some kit dreamed up from scratch or dredged from some obscure source. It’s the iconic flyer of the space marines.
But there is no way I’m paying FW prices for something that I’ll almost never use.
If priced similarly to the khornemower, I would be sorely tempted. But knowing GW, if it ever happens, they will set the price about 10-15% higher then I’m willing to go.

Its massive, but plastic is not expensive material and well designed strong ernough for the task of that size of model.
Though something that big in a regular game, ie normal rules, overkill in the insane.
150-200 probably would be limit that would be sane, but this is not a sane pricing system.

For the longest time, GW was on record saying that they weren't going to make any models that Forge World already had, to avoid stealing business from themselves. Or... Something?

Pretty sure that went out the window when they started robbing from Forgeworld to populate codices like Tau (Piranhas and Skyrays), and making superheavies like the Baneblade and Stompa.

Too many models sold in plastic now that FW did in resin for that to be true.
There really is no reason NOT to make it in plastic.
If they are smart, they can make modular sections so you use the same sprue at 4" intervals for the hull for instance.
With some care it would then make it easy to construct variants with the same core front end and back engines/gun/wing section.
Wonder why they tackled everything else but this?
Something that amounts to a whole bunch of flat pieces of resin for wings and building a long box sounds like a nightmare so plastic sounds more humane.

I would love a Plastic one, but I would be extremely surprised if it happens.
I wouldn't use it, it would sit as an Army Centre Piece, just as a Prestige Centrepiece. I might bring it to an Apocalypse game, but then all the Apocalypse games I've played have been dull as anything, and invariably end up a Draw. Maximum I would be willing to pay would be £299.000 so thats about $500 USD.

All they've said is that they've had issues with making SoB plastics specifically. IMO, some of those issues cited were valid enough, assuming that they're fixed on going for a certain look with the models. Could be that they're past those issues by now, though. We do have one source claiming that GW devs said as much at an event.
Also, if you were making a point with the robes on those models, then I'll point out that those robes are still mono-pose.

Unlike sisters of battle's robes which aren't monopose?
I don't buy the "we can't make them" thing. Didn't buy it then, don't buy it now. The robes excuse is silly, sure, you can't make robes that flow in any which way you want for any which pose you want, but you CAN make them look sufficiently good and GW have models new and old that prove that.
Anyway, plastic Thunderhawk... I don't see it happening, we do have big plastic kits now, but the Thunderhawk is another step beyond that.
