Utter heresy. The current SoB codex is, in fact, pretty good. It's certainly an improvement over the last one and can certainly hold its own.

Uh, what ?

That's the impression I've gotten. Why, you think it plays worse than the WD 'dex?

Well, the DE were also left out for a long time, and they got their update eventually. And I also get the impression that the Wood Elves are about to come back from a long lack of updates.

Have a little faith, bud!

Honestly, I'd pick a plastic Warhound over a Thunderhawk... For some reason I like walkers over flyers

I'd buy both, but I think I'd be more likely to use the Warhound in a game. The Thunderhawk is just big and unwieldy, it has a huge footprint.

Both are bad, but the WDex had a useful and fun HQ with Celestine, and not that useful, but fun, twin-linked 5-flamers squads.

I think the digital codex - although not as complete as I would have liked is better - some things are cheaper (Immolators, Exorcists in particular), Dominion Squads with up to 4 special weapons are nasty, the revised AOF works much better for me as its much less random. Celestine is still very good and again more reliable about getting back up.

I wanted much more but it was better than I expected....................

To answer on people questioning the technical possibility of making the thunderhawk in plastic - look at the scale model world for example.
Model ships often come in about 2ft long so yes moulds can be made that large. Although GW would probably require upgrading their machines. Side detail like tiny hull rivets are perfectly possible and very common. It may require better equipment to make the tooling for it.
Kits out there vastly outdo anything GW has made in terms of detail size, parts size and kit complexity, usually cheaper as well. GW makes kits more like toys than models. The plastic is an awful lot thicker and I suppose it wants to make them sturdy enough to play with, unlike scale models who are general more fragile.

So its definitely possible but will they? your guess is as good as mine.

SoB still seriously lack ranged firepower though, and when they get in rapid fire range they get charged and slaughtered.

In my experience at least.

I like fielding one 5-flamers squad much more fluffy and interesting than spamming exorcists, but maybe that is just me.
The exorcist was already a must-have, why make it better ?
And with Immolator being useless in their flamer version and always melta, all the way…
 Mr Morden wrote:

They could already do that before, if you took them full-strength. I remember my 10-sisters, 5-flamers dominion squad whipping a full ten-man chaos marines squad of the table in one turn of shooting. That was fun ! And extremely unlikely to happen again with a 5 sisters only squad without access to any meaningful act of faith.

She just instant-die to everything, and you only get one shot at getting back up, which is not even guaranteed ! She is very bad, because she is so damn fragile. Any HQ with a 2+ will kill her, any combat generic HQ will likely kill her too.

the size difference between a thunderhawk and pretty much anything in the normal GW range is rather extreme, if you havent seen the model its a rather crazy haha, and basing it for a "Normal" game where it needs to go on a 6x4... easier than a titan i spose... not by much but.
here is a couple of pics in the spoiler tags, with it next to a storm raven, ravens a wip haha so dont hate on it

Spoiler:

add to it all GW has more they should be working on before a plastic thunderhawk, certain armies, rule sets ( HAHAHA ) and whatever else, though i have been hearing that the thawks mould is getting older but that's no surprise, its not a big seller at 400quid. though even if it was plastic i reckon youd struggle to get it under 300-350 anyway.

Thanks for that size comparison, it is big. But then everything in 40k is getting bigger, and even the super heavies are creeping into normal games!

It is the biggest flyer that I've ever seen (I've not seen a Tau Orca, I wonder if anyone ever bought that model??) and with a few rules tweaks to bring it up to speed with the other flyers it would be an awesome unit.

It's not impossible to build, and even to sell at a profit for GW. Perhaps what they mean when they say the plastic would be too expensive is that they're not going to make their 80% profit margin that they normally do on their models. If they were willing to make a smaller cut of profit and sell it for a decent price then it would sell like hotcakes. So would all the other Marine flyers that people would want as escorts, and that's where GW make their profit from.
