So, we all know that Leman Russ disappeared into the eye of terror, promising to come back for the "wolftime" or final battle.
We should also know that the great Lion 'El Johnson is slumbering deep into the rock, the dark oracle predicting his comeback.

Where do you think this is gonna lead?
In many codices it talks about the final days of the imperium drawing nigh, with every space marine chapter stretched thinly, a good example being the Rock, which is sending out summons to the other unforgiven to make haste to the candian sector ASAP.

So, what do YOU think is going to happen?

It's not going to lead anywhere, because that would involve advancing the story. Games Workshop has no interest in advancing the story because for them, it's not a story, it's a setting.

Dont forget that both vulkan and Khan are still kicking, and Guilliman is supposedly healing in his stasis field.

Well we really have no clue wtf happened to khan. He chased the dark eldar (stuuuuuuupid move) into the webway and was never heard from again. He's either lost in the webway, captured by the dark eldar and tortured eternally, dead, or somehow captured and held in the Black Library by the regular eldar.

Vulkan is hiding out somewhere defending the final artifact. He's probably growing a garden and wearing overalls, hoping noone finds him. Kinda makes him a coward but he did suffer alot and being a perpetual has to suck.

When lion wakes up he'll either be insane from listening to whispers from the watchers while he was sleeping, or he'll probably start a civil war to clean the corrupt imperium.

Lemon Russ is probably dead or at least a slave to the machinations of Tzeench. His recklessness could in no way benefit him in the eye of terror and after 10k years I dont see how he could still be around. He probably would never succumb to chaos mentally however, so its possible he could be stuck in a time warp or some such.

If Guilliman does in fact heal enough that he can be removed from the stasis field and operated on, he has the best chance at rallying the imperium. Though it would likely take alot of time. It's also possible that he just decides to rally the space marines together, rewrites the codex to best handle things in the new age, and makes war with the tau to conscript them into the imperium. He has the intelligence to understand their tech is superior and can be a huge benefit to the imperium. This will piss of mars greatly, but I doubt they would start a full out civil war over it.

Can't tell if you're being serious about Mars not going for Civil War. They don't believe in the Emperor, they believe in the Machine Spirit and they could very easily cut off all weapons manufacturing to thousands of Space Marine chapters and quadrillions of Imperial Guard regiments, and then invade Terra if they were replaced. And they could, again, very easily take Terra because they have all the best tech sat on Mars.
Also, I doubt the Tau would succumb to the Imperium, the Imperium would have to succumb to the Tau and that's never going to happen.

I think I read somewhere that Russ may be behind the 13th company's return to realspace. I think the "wolf time", the "end times", and other versions of "time" are referencing, IMO, the 13th Black Crusade.
My best fluff estimate is that Chaos swarms Cadia and breaks the gate, all the Primarchs that are supposed to return do, and the daemon ones come out to play also. The Tau and Eldar put aside their differences with the imperium due to chaos and all, orks and necrons pick their sides, and the forces of chaos make it to Terra again. Titanic final battle ensues and whoever wins wins, I don't feel like angering anyone with my predictions so I'll leave that as my best guess.

In real life Chaos won the 13th Black Crusade, so yes. Necrons picked the Imperial side whereas the Orks were hired by Chaos Space Marines.

If the lion and guilliman both woke up I imagine they would both have different takes on what to do with the imperium as they found it.

I like the idea that the lion would begin a cleansing- I reckon that would put him at odds with guilliman who I think would be less inclined to try and wipe the slate clean. If they agreed however I think they would be difficult to beat.

I imagine the high lords of terra would feel pretty threatened if the primarchs started to appear. All those space marine chapters would almost certainly choose the primarchs (or would they...?) which might put them at odds with the establishment. Could be messy...

Fabius Bile trades Trazyn 16 Cultists, 2 half dead Emperor Clones, a bioengineered Human/Eldar crossbred, and the tears of Sly Marbo (Cried once when he was hit by a bus at age 4 (all occupants of bus died on impact)) for the head of Ferrus Manus and the dead body of Konrad Curze.

Bile combines them into Konrad Manus then using information gained from research into Necron Pariahs creates an army of Half/Robot Half/Astarte Chaos Marines led by Bile's newest creation the "21st" Primarch.

Naturally all the other Primarch's return to do battle with Konrad Manus and his NecroNightIronHands. But they are all defeated leaving the High Lords only once choice...

It's like the coolest Where's Wally ever!!

So, here's where we are currently. We've got Mars that's divided regarding worshiping the Emperor as the Omnisiah and others that believe that the Omnisiah is it's own entity and the Imperium is at best a partner and at worst a tyrant that doesn't have Mars' best interests. We've got an Emperor that's starting to fail and is the only beacon that ships use to navigate the warp. Necrons and Tyranids popping up. Tau expanding further and faster into the Imperium and Chaos breaking through at the Cadian gate.
The forces of man are divided and everyone distrusts everyone. It is so volatile that ANY change can destabilize EVERYTHING. So, here's some ideas that I have just based on my own interpretation of the fluff.

The Lion wakes up - All the DA unite and become a legion again. The high lords declare DA traitors and a civil war breaks out as the Lion tries to reclaim his father's kingdom as a birth right. Chapters loyal to the high lords would attempt to stop the DA but overall it may be futile as the DA is not an easy LEGION to destroy.

Russ returns - The wolves unite again and become a LEGION. Russ destroy's the Inquisition because, to quote Bjor "Worshiping the Emperor is what started this mess."

Roboute Guilliman - Civil war followed by prosperity because he's 'perfect'

Rogal Dorn, Ferrus, Sanguinius, Konrad - RIP (unless zombies?)

Jaghatai - Based on the very little information provided so far, he'd probably just take his legion and go hunt xeno races because...you know...freedom?

Horus - BEYOND DEAD

Alpharius - Unknown for all we know he may be the Emperor

Angron, Fulgrim, Magnus, Perturabo - Bad news bears

All in all, for the most part you're looking at major changes that would result in the setting turning from Grimdark to hopeful or to some grimdark there's really no point to anything. Any chapter, legion, Primarch going against the grain would be called a heretic and lead to a civil war of sorts.

I get the feeling that the primarchs coming back would be eccellent in the long run but truly horrific short term.

Lion comes back the DA reunite no issues what so ever high lords get pissed and want them sanctioned. (enter the wolves)

Guilliman comes back and UM's reform (not easy to do as there are so many and they are pretty diluted by this point) Roboute realises theres a big issue though. his beloved sons are all empy worshipper (gonna have to stop that) ecclesiarchy want them sanctioned

Russ falls arse over face out of the warp with what is left of the 13th and heads for the rock

Dorn just appears on terra (nobody not even him knows how) and starts looking for his hand

Vulkan arrives with the slamanders at maccragge ready to help guilliman get **** done

Khan takes a wrong turn in the webway and ends up getting lost only to find himself falling thorugh a gate and sitting in front of the golden throne

Russ and the wolves find the rock hurtling through space and realise there is only one thing left to do...

The Lion sees the wolves appear in the night sky (its always night on the rock) and realises that there is only one thing left to do...

The inquisition rock up and look at 2 whole legions gathered around the rock they realise there is only one thing left to do...

Rob meets with Vulkan in Macragge city they catch up have a chat Rob kills Vulks a couple of times (in jest) then they set about rebuilding the imperium (again) first of all they ban worship of captain emperor and blast any Church ships they can get there hands on inside ultramar. this day is known as "That day Rob and Vulk killed them priests"

Dorn Finds his had and realises that a bunch of guys in black armour are looking at him funny...

Corax flies out of the eye of terror with the ghost of edgar allen poe heading for deliverance...

the Lion and Russ hug it out abourd Russ's new flagship Fire Dawn (recognise it?) they talk long into the night reminissing about how they used to kill everything they lol'd at Curze a little bit because of how "Scary"

TheTtemplars realise this rather large chap with a hand missing is their long lost daddy Rogal Dorn and they take him in pop a blanket over His shoulders and give him a cup of tea. they tell him about everything and how sigismund was great blah blah blah and how they are still pretty strong and floating around space doing crusading bits. Dorn immediatly realises he has to pull the Fists back together and build some walls around the entire imperium.

now that ultramar is secure Vulkan flies off to rebuild his, still, shattered legion recruiting from as many worlds as he can along the way.

Rob realises that he now has the ultramarines back at strength but feels sorry for the blood angels and iron hands so he invites them all for a couple of beers on macragge.

the lion and russ are now happy as anything dancing through the cadian sector pulverising anything and everything that gets close to them (having 15,000 astartes following you around makes this easy enough) Chaos sees this new threat and abbadon pleads with the deamon primarchs to come and help. The gods deny him because they have bigger plans.

Corax arrives on deliverance and begins his intense recruitment regime in order to bring the Ravens back to full strength meanwhile the ghost Edgar allen Poe is in communion with the emperor arguing Corax's case trying to ern him redemption.

Khan walks up to the emperor and bows his head both in shame and in fealty. In that moment he swares upon his blade that he will avenge his fathers half death and reunite the imperium.

Dorn manages to convice the several thousand Templars that they should join back up with the fist. the fact that they are reluctant worries Dorn a little bit but he palms it off as just them being a little suprised.

Rob is out butchering the tau one day when he bumps into a cute little ant type thing. Naturally the ant bites Rob so he squashes it.

12,000 light years away on the fringe of the eastern fringe a slightly larger and queen hear the poor little guys death and decides its time to feed.

Vulkan sees them first. hundreds of thousands of bugs the size of battle barges ploughing through space. he isnt going to stop them so he evacuates and consolidates. He does what seems only logical heads toward imperium secundus.

on arrival of his brother Robert learns of the impending threat and asks council of his sons so thye can learn more of this xeno menace the blood angels and iron hands pledge themselves to helping eradicate the invasion and preserve the imperium.

Abbadons 24th black crusade is preparing to launch into the cadian sector (again) he understands the risks and is struggling to gain the gods favour and provide the primarchs with enough power to enter the mortal realm. He settles with his massed cultists and his deamon army. Angron sees him off (sort of) he doesnt want them to leave because he feel left out and wants to do nothing more than kill one of his brothers.

After killing 2,000,000 mortals travelling through the warp Korne allows angron 1 day on cadia itself.

Bossman creed is sitting about drinking as certain cup of caffeinated beverage when he notices something strange about the sky. its 9 pm standard and there are no stars... it is winter so cadia is dark by around 16:30 and the eye is clearly visible. but not tonight. the sky is black. no stars no eye. just black...

the rock is zipping through space surrounded by a fleet that would rival another large fleet. the lion and the mut are sitting chatting about how easily inquisitors are to break when interrogated and how funny the watchers in the darks faces are when Leman smells something strange. he says one word "maleficarum" the rock stops (dont ask how it just does) it turns (dont ask how it just does) and it starts on a new course towards cadia (dont ask ho... you get the point)

Corax has just added 1200 ravens to his rook when he gets a strange letter with the ultima Seal embossed in gold (yes even in the 41st millenium nothing is more reliable than a hand written letter) he is being called to macragge by Roboute Guilliman the avenginge child and master of the five hundred worlds along with many other fancy titles that really dont mean anything. Corax squaks and is echoed by 5000 of his sons dressed in black. he dons his jump pack and sets off towards the ships and towards ultramar.

the Khan steps of of his bike and takes in his surroundings. its dusty and there is nothing of use around here. just how he likes it.

Dorn is sitting atop his command throne aboard the "Fist of crimson and yellow and stuff" his new flagship fresh from the martian docks. a letter is handed to him by his adjutant Caesariusism, it bares the mark of Roboute. Dorn take one look at the letter screws it up sets it alight treads on it swears in a hundred different languages and picks up his stylus.

Guilliman is in conference with his brothers corax and vulkan when he is presented with a scroll of parchment bearing the Fist of Dorn. confused and not usually recieving mail he open the scroll. his temper immediatly flare and he slams his fist onto the table. Vulkan and corax look at him questioningly "What is it brother" they say in unison. he shows them the parchment. they slam their fist onto the table aswell. "two words. two poxy words? that is all he can spare us?" rumbles vulkan. his anger like a building volcano awaiting eruption. They leave the table heading for the astropathic chambers to further "chat with Dorn" the parchment is left on the table for a serf to clear. it reads. "SOD OFF"

He's not really dead since he hid all those relics. He's just taking a nap and chilling.
