Hello guys, I'm in bit of a pickle here. I have some old models I'm trying to get some paint off. I went to my local Wal-Mart to find some Dawn Power Dissolver and was out of luck. I got some Simple Green instead, let it soak for about 36 hours. After soaking it took a tooth brush to the models and was unable to get the paint off. Let it soak for a week. Alittle more progress but was still unable to get the black primer off. Is my next bet Brake Fluid or do I need a tougher bristle brush?

Not sounding very promising my friend. I've got Army Painter primer on one of my models, it just doesn't come off. It's eaten into the resin.

Army primer didn't come off my simply greened plastics either, not as a big deal as I always prime my models black.

Try using a stiff bristle brush or a brass wire brush with simple green.

Do you need the primer to come off? Sometimes it just sticks to the surface. You can try isopropyl alcohol, but I had some cases where it didn't come off completely either.

try some Purple Power or Super Clean from Walmart (get some latex gloves too). Simple Green is a vastly inferior product compared to these 2.

I have yet to find something that these 2 products cannot strip, GW primers from various years as well as car primer and varnish have been easily removed.

did you get it out of the household section or the automotive section? There is a difference.

Been away for a bit but thanks for the reposnses so far.

@Kosake: I want the primer off so I can respray them white. Im trying to match them to the other models I already have painted and the black makes them too dark.

@poda_t: simple green I got it from the automotive section.

For the rest I did not use army painter, I used GW spray but it was applied more than 5 years ago. I will try the tougher bristles first then more to the brass brush.

@Deathklaat: Thanks for the other products, I just hope my Wal-Mart in Nebraska has them. My Marts tend to be a bit run down and low on stock.

that's very interesting then. That should have done its job. i guess the only step up would be sonic cleaner, but, i'm presuming you're not looking to pick up more trash.

Its interesting to me too because we gave a simple green bath to some orks and worked great. These other models are just a bit too stubborn.

They changed the formula for Simple Green a few years back and the new formula is essentially worthless for removing paint. I used to use it regularly but now Power Purple is what I use. It works as well as anything but a proper primer isn't coming off. That's the point in using a primer in the first place.

Are they metal or plastic? I use acetone free nail polish remover to strip my ebayed minis. With metal you can leave them as long as you like. WIth plastic, soak no more than 15 minutes. Worked a treat for me.

Try running hot water over the model while scrubbing with tooth brush. Also make sure its straight simply green, not a mix of simply green and water.
