I was gonna run mono-khorne but the more i read forums and blogs the more Im doubing their competitiveness.
Tournaments in my town requires a 1000 point army. So far I have a x10 Bloodletters x10Flesh Hounds.
I know I need a Herald of Khorne with the hound but what else do I need to actually have fun while also being competitive.

10 bloodletter 100pts0 bloodletter 100pts planh what is both fun and competitive but problem with khorne is the troops. Bloodletters are slow and not very durable, they can be taken care off using bolter fire. Bloodthirsters are horrible in combat as are grimoired flesh hounds. Heres a list using quite a bit of stuff you have with some additions.
HQ
Bloodthirster 300pts
Exalted reward (grimoire)
Greater reward
Karanak 120pts
Troops
10 Bloodletters 100pts
10 bloodletters 100pts
Fast attack
7 fleshhounds 112pts
Heavy Support
Daemon Prince 245pts
Warp-Forged Armour
Daemonic Flight
Exalted Reward (portalglyph)
Lesser reward (axe)
Karank joins the flesh hounds and tge grimoire is used on them basicly every just runs/flies foward turn 2 you should be in charging distance for the fmc's and hounds. Chuck the portal glyp out turn 1 in your deployment and chuck out troops that will stay to score on objectives like horrors or plaguebearers.

Making a pure khorne army competitive just isn't going to happen.
Blood letters are the worst troop choice for daemons. Weaker than plaguebearers and horrors, slower, less attacks and no rending when compared to daemonettes, and +1 pts to boot.
The bloodthirster is great in cc, but offers no utility or ranged offense. A LoC is far superior.
Khorne DPs are also the worst, for the same reasons as the blood thirster. They will land, potentially kill a unit, and then get smeared across the battlefield.
Flesh hounds are however a saving grace. Powerful and quite inexpensive, they would be the go to way to create a powerful daemons list. Buff them with the grimoire and you are good to go vs most targets, just watch out for wraithknights and dreadnoughts.
Many competitive lists include these guys.
For a more competitive list, you will need to add other units from different gods. Fateweaver or a LoC, horrors or daemonettes, Tzeentch or maybe a slaanesh lash DP.

Honestly ots your choice on what you do, if your just looking to play competitively then yea tzeentch from many years of experience is very competitive, or nurgle or slaanesh to an exent or combininh them. But if you want to do an army you like and you like khorne then do it and if you want a bit more competitiveness then allie with chaos marine. At the end of the day its your choice what you do. For example I always played mono tzeentch even when they were just awful and even thpugh people said dont play them play mono khorne or nurgle I didnt coz I wanted to play an armie I liked. So yea its your choice.

Yeah, Tzeentch are at the top of competitive daemons, in no small part due to fateweaver and re-rollable saves.
For the OP: These are the daemon builds I run at 1k points. Not khorne themed though I'm afraid.
Fateweaver/LoC (still undecided which I prefer at 1k points).
LoC - Portal
Tzeentch daemon prince, armour, wings, grimoire
Horrors x 10
Horrors x 10
This is a diet flying circus army. Its quite hard to fit all you need into 1000 points however.
LoC - 2 greater gifts, staff, psyker level 3.
Horrors x 11
Horrors x 10
Soul grinder - Slaanesh torrent
Soul grinder - Slaanesh torrent
Soul grinder - Khorne Phlegm
This list is of course built around spamming the awesome soul grinder. Quite rock paper scissors vs some armies, but fun, and few psychic powers to remember.

I wasn't aware that anyone was saying this tbh. Mono tzeentch, and to a lesser extent mono slaanesh, are both viable. I think most daemon players have come to this conclusion by now.
Nurgle not so much, although there are plague drone lists which have done well enough.
Khorne....no. I don't see it.

This all depends how competitive you need the list to be. Flying circus will work well with any god, it's just better with some. Troops is your problem, that being said you can use them to just hold objectives.
