Not been too involved in the hobby for a while. So there is now a 6th edition but it appears to be getting alot of stick. I hear rumers that there may be a new edition on the cards but how true it is I have no idea.

So I ask myself, should I invest in the Dark Vengance box or hold out? The marines in the box are sweet and would fit lovely into my army. But I'm not wanting to buy 6th ed just before its outdated.

Help

"Brothers! I have seen the future and it is grim. We shall still be fighting our fallen brothers 10,000 years from now, but we shall not be remembered. All records of us will be lost and forgotten, all knowleage of our existence denied and our name classed as heracy! We shall lose our home and spend eternety drifting through space as vengeful spectres, smiting any enermy of mankind foolish enough to stand in our way. Let these facts fuel your hate! Show no fear, show no mercy and show no remorse! We are death incarnate! We are fury given form! We are the brothers of the 2nd legion!" I still think the Dark Vengeance kit is worth it purely for the models. All the starter sets are decent value for money. I too have seen the rumours for a new and/or updated version. How far away this is I have no idea. I've seen the models from DV NoS on ebay for £25 - 30 a go if you didn't want to take a risk with the rulebook.

Their is a new starter box coming but it's months - year away and the "revised codex" people are yammering about really is more like 6.1 with some of the various rule faq's and the dfts and esc rulebooks integrated into the book. So it's hardly a "new book".
I say if you think it's cool; get it

So are the new rules really that bad? When I look into it, it sounds pretty good, more shooting (always felt 5th was a bit assault heavy) and little things like snap shots, grenades you can throw etc. I sadly live a long way from any GW store so don't really have the chance to 'try before I buy' which is pants.

It really depends on where you are. I like it but there are so many people that think it was made by a braindead monkey.

The DV kit is probably the best value GW sells right now. The models are great, easy to assemble, and cheap.

If you want the rule book then you will want the new kit that comes out. There is no way to know how much will change with "7ed". I have heard things ranging from assaulting from reserves and 6.1 with escalation added.

There are some neat ideas in there, they just aren't implemented very well. I like the idea of having allies, since it makes sense that a Space Marine force would fight alongside a small detachment of Guardsmen, but there is a huge, massive balance issue with certain combinations that allows a small number of points to make up for another force's shortcomings (Tau, for instance, are Battle Brothers with Eldar, allowing them to get psyker support through Farseers).

Shall I get Pretre to add you to the rumour tracker?

I've heard independently from Dakka, from a source that could at least be termed plausible, that we are in for a 7th Edition.

We have also had confirmations of copies of DV being recalled from stores, this may fit with a rumour that the update was due as soon as May, it might be to do with a reduction in foreign language editions.

If you've yet to buy a starter, I don't see how waiting to see what May brings could hurt? Most rumours seem to be centred on a new book, but not a new starter, so the models are likely staying the same, worst case scenario, you get the starter and need another rulebook in a few weeks, which can be ebayed for a modest amount.

I hope it is a 7th edition, even if that means buying another rulebook.

There are really cool ideas in 6th, but I don´t think it is working. So many changes are needed that a new edition sounds OK. And I think they are aware of the problem.
