So I just got a used demon prince model, no paint, but glued together and I would prefer to paint it in pieces and then assemble it. Does anyone know a way to remove to glue. (It seems to a fairly good model glue, either GW glue or a similar product.)

First, is it the plastic or metal Daemon Prince? Second, if it's plastic, was it assembled with plastic glue or standard superglue? If it's the former, you're out of luck sans-cutting the pieces off with a hobby knife. If it's the latter, try popping it in a freezer for a few hours and then carefully prying it apart. The cold temperatures will make the glue brittle and weak and thus easier to break apart.

What was it glued with?
If it was superglue, stick it in the freezer for a while and try to break it.
If it was plastic cement, you're probably out of luck as far as breaking it (unless it was the crappy GW plastic glue). If that is the case, you have to cut the pieces off with a knife or a hobby saw.

Like I said, I'm not sure, seller did not say, But I think is either normal super glue, or citadel glue.

With plastic, if it has used plastic glue, stick it in a freezer for a few hours. Then, carefully prise the parts apart...you *normally* get a clean break!
This has worked with superglue for me too

Isopropyl alcohol may help in some cases... no guarantees with decent glue, but it just might work.

I REALLY don't want to damage the model, would this melt the plastic at all?

Isopropyl alcohol will not melt plastic. I suggest you start by putting the model in the freezer for a couple of hours. Then try breaking the pieces apart. If that doesnt work then it is plastic glue so you have to cut the pieces with a saw.

Ok, so the freezing method let me pry off a shoulder guard with little effort, the rest of it... Well,,, the previous owner used a metric feth ton of glue, the dp's entire back is shiny, so on the the rubbing alcohol.

Non-chemical method for super glue - if you want to seperate items (not appropriate in every case) or arms etc off a model.
Echoing what was said above, Put it in the freezer, the trapped moisture in the glue will expand as it freezes weakening the joint. A little pressure the section should separate.
I have used this on forge world models to considerable success, especially if someone has glued a FW together badly and sold it on ebay!

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

I did that, the less glued ones came off like nothing, but some are HEAVILY glued down, freezer didn't make a dent. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok... I got the alcohol, how do I apply it?

Soak it and let it swim for a while. You can keep the minis in iPrOH indefinitely, so If you have the time, let them soak for some days. If you have access to an ultrasonic bath, that might speed up the process as well.
