Looking for any general CC and any advice on how to combat those damn Eldar, jetbike council and wave serpents. Thinking about a Wolf Priest with the Arjac group instead of the Runic Rune Priest?

First of all, I really wouldn't call your list competitive. Wolf guard, Logan and Arjac...these 3 things are taking up over 750 points, that's half of your army!
This would be ok if they were the most competitive choices at your disposal, but they aren't. You have grey hunters and rune priests. They will get stuff done. If you are playing against a competitive eldar list then you have no need for beatstick characters.

With these points I'd invest in at least 3 10 man greyhunter squads with drop pods, mixing melta and plasma to a good ratio vs your meta.

Longfangs with MM in a drop pod?? What's that about? When they land they will only be firing snap shots, and if they are armed with melta they will want to be close, so will probably die in the next turn. Just stick with the tried and tested missile launchers for a cheaper better ranged squad. I'd also lose the pod. If you want to move them around, then get a razorback or something.

I was actually basing this off a list i saw in Adepticon.
Logan goes with the long fangs and gives them the ability to move and shoot, plus they can spilt fire. I only have 5 pods at my disposal and i wouldnt want to run a list witb pods and one unit of long fangs with missles, wouldnt seem very effective.

Im guessing you never played with logan then? I know how expensive those units are but ite kind of a gamble. Im going for a big alpha strike. Maybe its not the most competitive list but i think it can put up a good fight, and Logan and arjac are beasts.

Have you played with wolfguard? I havent yet. Ypu get more firepower the turn you come down which is always the best turn for pods, i will have to see in the next few games i play. Just about finished with all my combiweapon guys

I've played against them. And certainly they have more specialized firepower the tun they drop in, they are of course more expensive and not as durable as a full squad of grey hunters. Still, combi weapons for 5 points is pretty good.
I'm not saying they are bad. I just personally like a good number of scoring troops on the board.
A major factor here is what you are playing against. Small elite armies like wraithguad will be butchered if you catch them in the open when the plasma pods come down. An ork horde on the other hand will in all likelihood sweep your small numbers aside.


Arjac especially suffers from this problem. Against some lists he has the potential to perform very well, however he is very expensive, and quite one dimensional. If there aren't any high vaule targets for him to get to, then his points are kind of wasted, and at 188 points you could get a whole additional squad of grey hunters or wolfguard.

Overall, now you have explained what the plan with logan and the longfangs is, the list looks ok.
It is a pretty elite army, which might come and bite you, but then again the same can be said for any small force.
Arjac is the one thing I am unsure about.

Yeah he is super pricey, I guess I want to take him because his model is so cool, but taking a nother scoring unit seems better. Maybe ill drop him fill out the unit of 5 wolves and give them two plasma guns to diversfy my drop pods and move some points around to take another scoring unit of scouts or something.

The Eldar will keep their shields up until after you drop and they can flat out away from your drop zone and then begin the scatter laser butchery. You basically need to win on your drop turn, which I'm not sure this list can do reliably against Eldar.

You need something to counter his mobility, especially if everyting is in a serpent, or on a jetbike. I find that drop pod lists are largely dull against Eldar because once you land, you get a single round of shooting before the eldar flat out away. Even the 5x Multimelta sqaud is not likely to wreck a Wave Serpent that has moved and has its shield up. However, If you do decide to Pod in, you need to land them in such a way that he cant escape, this way you can put your granades to use in assault on the following turn.

Thanks for input. I knew that pod lists font do great aganist wave serpents. It kind of sucks how resliant, fast and shooty those things are for what they cost. Wont stop me from playing Drop Pod SW though, its just too cool haha. Ill play other armies if i want to be super competitve, but i still think SW pods are pretty good.

Pods are not the worst choice here, just require some good positioning. Just remember, a Wave Serpent will almost never die to 2 melta shots from a 10 man grey hunter squad. However it will almost always die to 10 grenades from that same squad in assault. Trap them, Assault them, Win.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Rune Priests could not take the same combination of powers.

Well, if you switch all combi plasmas to combi meltas you can glance them to death, and after that bolters can get the avengers, I love big expensive IC who demand awe so I wouldn't change it.

Thanks for eveeryones advice. I kind of like combi plasma for dealing with other things. What do you think about changing one Rune priest to a Wolf Priest sticking him witj arjacs combi plasma unit and then changing the other WG to combi meltas?

How are you going to trap them??? I can't think of any situation where you can "trap" a wave serpent.

I've played this game so so so many times.(As the eldar) Mech eldar is just your hard counter. You're going to just have to change the style of your list to really have a reliable chance of victory.

I run wolf guard pods, the wolf guard are great for killing the big things, the grey hunters for hoards, I d advice against those hqs they are over priced, I use wolf priests they give you preferred enemy on the unit you want to kill!

As an eldar player I can tell you that the serpent shield does NOT affect the rear armour, fire some melta at that armour 10 rear during your first turn if he has no cover and he can't use the 2+ to make it a glance if it hits the rear. If it's his second turn, no biggie drop pod down with melta it should still blow up the serpent.

Against seer stars you will need good ignoring cover ap3 mass shots. To get through bike armour, concealed, fortune cover (3+ re-rollable) 3+ re-roll armour most likely 2+ if he gets protect. The best tactic here is to try to get some rune priest to psychic hood some of the powers ( not sure on ruling here) otherwise get it anyway, hope for a ignore cover drop behind to kill warlocks first and keep firing those bolt guns until you breach the shadow field on the baron. But do take note it can sometimes help to kill their army first, including scoring troops, long range support etc.

A tactic I have used quite a bit that always seem to help other than going first with drop pods. Is go three full squads of missile launcher long fangs, maybe one or two squads with a lascannon. Attach a rune priest to each squad and roll on divination for both powers and hope you get ignore cover and if you do the other power can be prescience. The rest of your army can be drop pods full of grey hunters in drop pods with a flamer and a melta, that combo can really harass the wave serpent list. You blow up the serpents or wreck them with the long fangs and then flame the occupants that disembark.

It takes a huge amount of krak missiles to down a moving Wave Serpent. If you don't go first, you probably just lost.

If you were facing eldar with serpents would swap out jaws for prescience? That way your meltas and things are more likely to hit?

Yeah. But the krak missile has so little stopping power that it's not going to matter. Plus, who do you think is getting targeted first?

AS per my post, which was ignored a multi melta in all but the rear of a serpent isn't good, so those drop pods may help you yet to get to that rear, plus if you can get ignores cover/prescience onto them even better, don't even bother firing the 18 required krak missiles to down the 3 hull points.

Do you have the option to not bring it in turn one? Arjacs hammer is str 10 right? Auto pen at rear armour.(if you can't choose to do it second turn then deep strike next to it, fire and if it wants to fire all weapons it can only go 12, your turn move six fire, assault at jack auto pens rear, no shield or cover against it.)

Yeah, i will just have to make decisions bases on his deployment and first turn, crucial for any pod lists
