Preface:
I'm working on my second army, and due to a big love of the XV-8, I'm putting together a Farsight army with as many crisis suits (and a couple hammerheads) as I can get. I love the crisis suits for their models, and the awesome amount of customizability you can get with weapon loadouts.

Problem:
That said, a few guys in my group are already making accusations of cheese-mongering. I'd like to follow the number one rule of gaming of "Don't be a ", but I really like the crisis suits. Is this listreally that dripping with queso? If so, how could I (within reason) make this a bit more palatable?

Thanks

If that sucks to read, I apologize. Posting from mobile, and I'll try to improve it when I get a chance.

That is the least cheesy list for Tau that I have seen (except for any list with Vespids ). You have no riptides, no broadsides, and no commander "batman". Also no Markerlights (that I saw).

So not only is it not cheesy, it is very beatable by any army.

If your friends think this is cheese then I'd find other players

2800 Points
Space Marines: 3000 Points
4000 Points
3000 Points
2500 Points

It's not. Crisis suit spam is Farsight Enclave's gimmick.

Crisis suits and Hammerheads are very good units, of course. But at the end of the day, you only have 30 or so T4 W2 3+ models, all of which get Instant Deathed and/or no saves from the prolific amount of S8 and low AP weapons in the game. Every army in the game has tools available to handle this, it just might require your opponent to tailor their list a bit before the game.

Compared to fighting against triptide/buffmander/markerspam/broadsidemisslehell, this aint nothing. Tell your friends that the internet thinks they're wussies :p

First off you should put SMS on the hammerheads instead of the Burst cannons. Same number of shots at the same S and AP and same cost. The SMS however gets 12" extra range, ignores LOS, and ignores cover on top of that.

This is something I see a lot of. You're not being cheesy because of the list, but because of your army. In their eyes at least. I've played Tau since the last few years of 5th. It's just something that you're going to see a lot of.

Some small advice is to swap out shield drones for gun drones. Because they don't share armor saves like they used to, they run into a pretty noticeable problem. You're getting a 4+ save from a drone pretty much any way you look at it. Either armor, cover for the most part, or in the shield drone's case an invul. But because it has to be placed up front to actually use the invul the opponent will just have you take standard saves like bolters on the drone first. If you're going to go with drones, at least get something that can shoot as well as soak some wounds.

I'd get rid of the Automated repair systems on the hammer heads, very situational use really. Especially when you're paying all the points for disruption pods to keep them alive.
With the spare points I'd try to get the Advanced targetting system and target lock for the commander. Maybe even swapping out the shield generator on one bodyguard to a stim injector so you can toss LOS bolter shots over to that suit and S8 + to the other suit. Their firepower out gives you 4 shots into one unit and another 2 shots into a second unit that can be allocated to special weapons on a 5+.

Overall it looks very fun.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

The Twilight Zone

Your list is not even close to cheesy. It is a ton of crisis suits, sure. But at the end of the day they have the bodies of marines and stats of guardsmen. Lots of mobile suits can be annoying, but it is far from impossible to defeat. I would argue you could boost your power in this list to make it more competitive.

Shield generators are never worth it, just take 2 gun drones or stims or something. Also, don't twin link on a commander, when you have BS5.

I agree about advanced targeting systems on the commander and gun drones over shield drones. Advanced repair system is OK for longstrike if you have the points, but it is not really worth it on a regular hammerhead. Longstrike also brings a blacksun filter, so save yourself a point by not taking 2 on his hammerhead. You may want to consider a skyray over a 2nd hammerhead for AA, long ranged AT and markerlight support(as your list has zilch).

Your list has no cheese element that tau can field, hell you don't have a single markerlight, buffmander, solo scoring suit, eldar allies, riptide or O'vesa.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Honestly I don't see how to de-cheese this list. Sure there are a lot of suits but all the regular cheesy elements are missing.

My preference would be to add in some Fusion Blasters somewhere as every time I leave the heavy tank hunting up to my Hammerheads they seem to miss.

I'll be sure to let them know.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll take note and make some changes here and there. Especially taking of the extra black sun filter.
