I read a topic on bolter and chainsword about a squad of gunslinging Vanguard squad that sounds fun to play. I would build around the RG tactics and use them as an MC hunting squad with a captain/chapter master that has a burning blade. So squad would be like this with all jump packs:

Chapter master w/ jump pack, Burning blade, Shield Eternal and artificer armor
-270pts

x4 Vanguard Veterans with grav pistol & bolt pistols
x4 Vanguard Veterans with Bolt Pistol & chainswords
x1 Vanguard seargent with Grav pistol & lightning claw.
-310pts

total: 580pts

So the squad would jump around and shoot MC's with grav pistols, trying to concuss them before they swoop in with HoW and a burning blade. hopefully it will get blinded before it could strike.

Is the squad a good idea? or should it be tried with a captain? I have little to no experience with big choppy squads.

While decent in theory, the cost is abnormal, and would be better done by biker...

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I enjoy the look of the dual pistol wielding marines and made several units using it. My Vanguard vet squad (Blood Angels) runs me 235 points and is 5 marines, each with hand flamer, bolt pistol, and meltabombs with the sarge having a power maul. Mine is set up for any target other than MC so is not quite a good example, but I figured this could also be a gunslinger appreciation thread

Forgot to mention, my Honor Guard squad runs me 285 points but has 4 marines with 2 plasma pistols. Might not be the best use of points but they sure look cool!

Every game is a "throw away" game. I stopped trying to be competitive when it became clear that the designers don't want it to be. Now i play what looks cool and when my Blood Angels pull out a hard win it feels so much sweeter. So go all out with the gunslinging! It is too much fun to avoid.

I can eke matches out against non-Gravstar C:SM with BA. That's about it. Even that is a bit hollow because if they had a gravstar, I'd be decimated. GKs and SW are matches that are still winnable, but rarely.

I'm really tempted to try one of these ideas:

Idea 1: blood angel allies: I know they are kinda tough to play, but dang I had a cool idea. An honor guard squad armed with 8 infernos pistols and a librarian. 370 points all together, but it's cheaper than a stern guard squad (although less range...) and provides a lot of shots. Might use this in an apoc game! Libby would take blood lance to try and add to the melta.

Plus I could take a squad with just flames all around.

Idea 2: fire angel allies: again, a drop pod with a command squad and a Libby, but this time they all have cheap hand flamers (except apothecary with a bolter) and they get +1 str to the flamers on the turn they come in. This or vanguard vets who would be doing the same thing.

Idea 3 is the raven guard idea as above.

I am lucky with my play group. I stopped playing tournaments with the edition change and my group of friends don't play any of the OP armies. So even though my Angels aren't very good anymore they still aren't totally left in the dust when i play a game. I feel sorry for anyone that is still trying to make the Blood Angels work against the stuff you see at tournies now.

You really can't. It's hard even with count-as C:SM and no gravstar of your own.

This says it all.
I rarely post on the forum, but this is the hobby in a nutshell.
The game is designed around painting, modeling and having fun (and selling stuff).
Its not balanced, never really has been and probably never will be.
Play what you think looks cool and have fun.

I'm not saying being ultra-competetive is the only thing that matters, just you have to draw the line at SOME level of inefficiency.

I mean...its almost as ineffective as single-gun crisis suits there :\

I personally like blood angels vanguard vets, 10 men with jump packs, a sanguinary priest with jump pack, allied with a DA librarian with jump pack for presience, all of them with 2x plasma pistols.

Hella expensive and inefficient, but super funny and kinda fun to run.

but they look fun as hell! =D

I might take the gunslinging BA Vanguard Veteran squad in an apoc game to try and destroy some armor turn one. that may be fun!

No need to ally anything for prescience, Blood Angel libbys get it too.

Come to think of it, could Chaos Chosen take dual pistols? I ask because a squad of them with Cypher leading them would look kickass.

"Cypher is followed into combat by his Cosplaying Fallen Angels"
