Hi all ! I'm starting to feel attracted to the Eldar and their dark cousins, but first I'd like to know how each of them on their own work in 6th edition. Which one rely more on vehicules and transport ? Which one can ditch the most damage and how ? What are the good and bad units ?
Also, here are some quick example of what I usually play against:
IG : Chimera Spam with veterans
Nids: gaunts, warriors, hive guard, fexes and HT
CSM : Plague Marines with Rhinos, Heldrake, Obliterators, Helbrute.

I must admit I am more a infantry, jump infantry and bike guy than a dedicated transport, vehicule and MC guy, Is there something that can be worked out ?

Which one rely more on vehicules and transport ? Both do. Dark eldar more than eldar though. Eldar have wave serpents, one of the best tanks in the game, while dark eldars near entire army must be in some sort of transport.
Which one can ditch the most damage and how ? Eldar generally dish out more damage, and are much better. Eldar can go up agaisnt and have a great chance of winning vs any army. Dark eldar are good against lists with lots of or expensive infintry models, as they have allot of poisened weapons.
What are the good and bad units ? Cant say much about dark eldar, but for eldar heres a list.
Good:
Wraithknights
Wave serpents with tl sl
war walkers
warp spiders
and almost everything in the dex baring....
The bad (or not as good)
Banshees
falcons
Pheonix lords
and named CC hq for that manner (exept maybe the avatar)
wraith fighter

TN/AL/MS state line.

Dark Eldar are more vehicle reliant, and a major glass cannon. Every game is played on a razor's edge. Eldar are generally better in the current meta(if you play against the meta anyway) than Dark Eldar, but the Dark kin have a few edges over Eldar. Ignoring toughness and armor >12. All the anti infantry weapons wound on 4s regardless of the opponents toughness, while their anti tank are all lances. If that's the kind of thing you see on a daily basis you might consider Deldar.

Plus Deldar have the best looking jump infantry, and coolest bikes in the game. (Scourges and Reavers baby! )

That said, Eldar also can bring lots of Lances (my 1000 point army has 8 lances in it), and their basic weapon (shuriken catapults) have pseudo-rending. Not as reliable as the Poison, but it also goes right through the armour. Oh, and our main Bike unit is a Troops choice, making it ideal for late game objective grabs.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

It also depends on youre attitude.

Want some easy wins against most armies or do you want to fight for your victory? --- For easy wins take eldar. Personally I think winning with Eldar means nothing and is not as satisfying.
Want to play in an competitive environment? --- Take Eldar
Want to play just for fun with youre buddies? --- Take DE. They are much more interesting to play and wont attract as much hate and whining as Eldar do.
Want to play the good ones or the bad ones?

But the most important question of all is:

What armies look do you like most?

Sorry Master of Guants, but I am gonna have to disagree with you.

While eldar undeniably have a strong codex now, I don't think winning with them means nothing. It only means nothing if you win by spamming the best units such as serpent spam, but that is true for practically any army.

Taking a balanced selection of units and vehicles means you still have to work for your wins.

That being said, my eldar army doesn't get nearly as much use as my chaos marines nowadays.

Well it might be a little bit to hard when I said it means nothing, but the truth is, even a balanced Eldar list is an uphill battle for most other armies.

Temple Prime

To enrage your foes; ally them together as the two armies have some excruciatingly annoying combinations.

A favorite is the beast star; a massive blob of khymera and beast masters with a farseer (possibly Eldrad) and the Duke leading them, all benefiting from Fortune to make them all but invincible and dump a massive boatload of wounds into anything they touch.
