Thoughts? I'm working around the models included in the Strike Force set, so that gives me the 2x Tac Squads, 1 Drop Pod and the Commander, as well as a couple of Bikes from home I've been salvaging. Are there any major changes you would recommend before I commit to buying anything else?

Thanks

The big thing would be getting those bike squads up to 5 men, so they can count as troops.

I’m not a fan of combi-heavy sternguard. Keep them with basic bolters, and try to add to the squad until it’s full. Bolter fire, even with special ammo, requires mass to work well. I might add a HF here, if you have the actual sternguard box. If not, they are fine bare-bones.

Chapter master needs artificer armor.

The TLLC is more of a stand back and shoot arm, rather then a drop one. If you are going to pod him, I’d go with the assault cannon. A MM dread or ironclad would be my first pick, but I’m assuming you are running with the ven dread kit that came with your strikeforce.

Running with just the strikeforce, you are restricted to MLs. If you were going to pick up another box, I’d recommend a devastator box, to mix up your heavy weapons. It’s hard to go wrong with a full melta tac squad in a pod: MM/M c-melta. In general you want to match the sarge’s combi with the squad special. For drop pods you are going to want to specialize. One of the perks of podding is getting to place the right unit right next to what it wants to shoot at. Might as well maximize that. Generalist squads are best for troops that are going to have to react and deal with whatever shows up.

Speaking of pods, you generally want an odd number, to maximize first turn impact. I had some good luck yesterday with 5 assault marines with paired flamers in a pod. The fact that Cassius was in there with them helped, but the burning alone was worth the price.

Here is what I would do.

Chapter Master
Bike
Shield Eternal
Thunder Hammer
Artificer Armor
Warlord

Librarian
Lvl 2
Bike

Elite

Dreadnought
Assault Cannon
heavy flamer
Drop Pod

Sternguard
5x Combi Meltas
Drop Pod

Troops

Tac Squadx10
Meltagun
MultiMelta
Combi Melta
Vet Sarge
Drop Pod

Tac Squadx10
Meltagun or Flamer
MultiMelta or Heavybolter
Combi Melta or Combi Flamer
Vet Sarge
Drop Pod

You have a lot of Melta already. I think this much Melta might be overkill. You can switch it up to handle horde which might be a good option. Tac squads should be flexible everyone else should have a specific job.

Scout Squad
5xSniper Rifles
Vet Sarge
Camo Cloaks

6x Bikes
2x Grav Guns
1x Combi Grav
Vet Sarge

6x Bikes
2x Grav Guns
1x Combi Grav
Vet Sarge

This gives you more scoring options which are always good. This also gives you two more scoring squads with the bikes. One squad can roll with the Libby one squad can roll with the Chapter Master. Snipers hide. Everyone else drops in. I changed up the dread because having a Lascannon on a podding dread isn't necessary. Assault Cannon and heavy flamer are a great combo and lets you handle horde as well. You do have a lot of Melta so maybe switching up one of the tac squads to a horde configuration would help. Hope it all works for ya. I love smaller point games.

What powers are your trying to get with the libby? You maybe better off making him a dark angels libby because the divination power is where it's at. Also power weapons are kind of lack luster unless you take the Vet Sgt upgrade to get the bonus Atk.
