I'm looking to make use of the hairspray weathering technique but my airbrush compressor is currently out of commission. Does anybody know if I can use an aerosol spray primer to achieve the top layer of paint? (i.e the one after the hairspray).
If not is there any other method of applying the top layer without the use of an airbrush?

Spray can primer would be bad for this application. I would recommend grabbing a bottle of canned air for airbrushing (I know its not ideal but it will work). That way you can still airbrush the layer and still use the technique you are trying.
i too would also wait for your airbrush compressor
painted on top would be too thick and would leave horrible marks around the areas brought up and sadly I thick a spray can will probably also be too thick.
