Note to mods shut this down if you feel the need to.

Is there someone on the forums you disagreed with or just felt was a waste of space but have now warmed up to? I'd like to think that as a community in OT even though we have considerable differences in view and stupid mutiquote arguments ad nauseum (maybe that should read stupid gun arguments ad nauseum) that after a time of reading others views we can come to respect others that we may have disagreed with in the past.

So I'll lead off - lets leave off why you weren't impressed with them and just mention what you think now. If you want to be un-serious go ahead after all it's one of my threads - but lets be nice.

Seaward: Has to be one of the smartest and best informed people I have had the pleasure of reading on this forum. Even though I don't always agree with what he says, I always take the time to read and think about what he says. I've learned a lot about the military and other things related and have also enjoyed reading his viewpoint on many things, as it can be quite different to my beliefs.

So Seaward, thanks and may you continue to have many an OT argument more.

whembly, djones520, easysuace, cincydooley, Plataun4th, etc are posters that I frequently disagree with politically, socially and philosophically but I've never really disliked them either cause outside those disagreements they seemed pretty decent so I don't know if they really are good

examples for this thread. I don't see myself ever getting a long with generalgrog or seaward though...

If we all got along, OT wouldn't be fun!

I don't think i'd ever say I hated anybody on here. Disliked when loosing an argument, certainly, but never hate.

People agree on some things and disagree on others depending on the topic. I try just to treat them as isolated encounters and don't feel myself coming up "against" any particular person with any notable frequency.

Lets not throw round the word hate Medium of Death, this was meant as a feel good thread. To show that even though we disagree with some perhaps we can show publicly that we respect them. Perhaps the thread is redundant though....

I'm pretty sure everyone disagreed with Gailbraithe in pretty much every thread he involved himself in and that he disagreed with everyone else (even when someone tried to point out when he had a point he disagreed with them) XD

I guess I'm mostly with Medium of Death on this. It's the internet. People gonna disagree. If anything some of the people I like the most on OT also happen to be the ones I'm frequently on opposite ends with

Gotta say though my personal favorite poster is the Spam Bot thats always selling us Kitchens. It takes some serious dedication to keep coming back What a trooper.

I disagree with dogma, ahtman, and Sebster on pretty much everything philosophically. I also respect each one of them a ton because I think they're all intelligent, articulate people.

Hotsauceman I disagree with on pretty much everything too, but I chalk that up to him being a naive, idealistic college kid, so I don't hold it against him. He's also a genuinely nice kid.

d-usa. At first I thought he was a bleeding heart liberal. But the more I read here the more I began to agree with him. Now I agree with the guy on most things except on gun control.

Is he not the origin of "Blame the Victim?". i.e. Gailbraithe

Clicked the link. Yes... yes he is. Forgot how glorious that was.

Hate is such a beautiful thing though... let it flow through you...

I didn't mean to appear to encourage others to hate and thought it was obvious by saying I didn't hate anybody. I guess using the word could drive the thread in that direction.

More positive... err... KilKrazy inspired me to go out and read 1984, which I followed up with a couple more of Orwell's books. That wasn't really on the back of any argument though.

There are people I disagree with politically and philosophically, sometimes vehemently, but almost none I actively dislike as people. At some point or another I have agreed with people that I also have argued with.

The main exceptions are, of course, G Baby and that guy who randomly shows up to talk about how ugly and stupid non-Asians are.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I can't hate that guy because what he says is so stupid and racist it just becomes funny to me (I mean obviously it's a horrible thing to do) I spent like 15 min on his forum site just laughing at how ridiculous his community's thoughts were on "westerners".

I know there are people who have philosophically decided that no one should ever be on ignore; but those are better people that I.

I do tend to clear my ignore list from time to time but ultimately, I've found there are people on this forum who really aren't going to say anything worth reading; or at least what they might say that is interesting is not worth wading though endless one-line garbage posts smugly implying their superiority.

This list gets longer and longer for me every day.

There are a few people in the YMDC forums that make me want to strangle a manatee in the nude. (While screaming "Why argue strict RAW if even by your own admission you would never play it that way?!")

There are a few people who have made me wonder if Rule #1 is enforced at all. There is a handful of users, most of them on my ignore list by now, who are the most negative, caustic, rude, dismissive, and thoroughly worthless posters imaginable. Two or three of them I've gone back through their posts page by page looking to see if they had EVER said anything polite, constructive, or positive. (One user in particular I went back four pages and never did find one.)

Sometimes I come to accept them and just ignore them. For the most part I put them on ignore and try not to let that crap get to me.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

Nope. You're all a bunch of tossers and I'm sick of the sight of you.

It just so happens that I enjoy being around tossers and getting physical nausea when I see peoples' faces.

Carry on, I'm gunna go barf in the corner.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Manchu and I detested each other, initially. Now we're facebook friends! The same is true (though to a lesser extent, we just butted heads a few times) of Ahtman. We chat on facebook from time to time. He's a genuinely nice bloke who I would consider more a friend than a fellow Dakkanaut.

Ugh. Sincerity feels... Weird.

I have a select group of idiots in mine (6) and once they join such an august company they never leave. 3 of these people are/were denizens of OT and the remainder are from the general population.

There are people in this very thread who have never written a word that I agree with (as far as I remember), a few more whose world view occasionally aligns with mine and a few more who I tend to agree with. Just like the real world and it takes a sustained effort to get on my ignore list.

My philosophy on forums is that as its the internet its pointless getting worked up about anything on it and getting dragged into on the all too frequent flame bait discussions on here is a waste of everyone's time. I have evolved a system where I only post in a given topic a handful of times (and on some topics not at all), this allows me to express my views on a subject and back them up as required without getting bogged down in the morass of entrenched opinion that will inevitably arise. If you are dwelling on forum posts when you are not on forums then you are doing something very wrong.

I try to have a 2 post maximum in "discussions", if I cannot manage to communicate my point in 2 posts I feel it is a failure on my part and I therefore drop the argument. Occasionally I get a bit excited and break this rule, but for the most part i think an internet argument is just a failure to communicate.
No one else please take up this idea, OT would die.
Ban lists are an anathema to me , I feel like I'm censoring myself if i cannot read what someone else types.

Differing opinions is just a fact of life, I may disagree with someone's opinion but that is not going to make me dis-like them as a person. I think I've only had to block two people to date for varying reasons (names omitted to protect the guilty ) Hearing another perspective usually brings up arguments or points I hadn't considered.

Now I just have to work on being slightly less abrasive at times
