If anyone is thinking about playing this game, let me give you a quick review.

It is the worst.

First off, it's a very pay2win game. You naturally gather 2 resources; elixir and gold. These accrue at a very slow rate. Additionally, you build buildings and then upgrade them. At first the upgrades take 5 minutes, then 15, and so on. The current build time for most buildings at my level is 3 days, yes, 72 hours. Additionally, you can only build 2 things at a time, because you only have 2 builder units.

This is where the third resource comes in: green gems. You start off with a bunch of gems, and the tutorial walks you though using gems constantly. You use them to remove the timesink elements: pay some crystals to have a building done immediately, that kind of thing. You can get another builder unit via a difficult to attain achievement, or you can pay for a builder with 450 crystals, or $5 USD.

Eventually it eases you into PVP. This is where an already mediocre game starts to really scrape the bottom. You compete with other people for trophies, and the number of trophies you have put you in a league. Higher leagues give you bigger bonuses when you do a raid. The problem is that the risk\reward is totally, totally boned. If you pull off a successful raid, you will earn between 5 and 13 or so trophies. I average about 7 trophies per successful raid. If you lose a raid, you generally lose between 22 and 30 trophies, depending on how badly you blew it.

So, a typical experience is: build a force to raid a village. This takes about 30 minutes which you can of course speed up with gems. Find a good match, and raid. Win 5 trophies. Repeat, win, get 5 trophies. Repeat, find out the enemy is heavily reinforced (you don't know if there are reinforcements or not until you attack) and lose. Lose 26 trophies. Congratulations, you just spent an hour and a half to win -16 trophies.

I have not sunk any money into this game, which is probably why it's such a gakky experience. I still play it now and then because... look, I don't know. I don't really have a good reason because I have never before really played a game I sort of hate. At some point, though; there will be no point in playing at all: when it takes 5 or 6 days to build things, can you even really say that you "play" a game that you log in and play for 10 minutes once or twice a week?

Anyway, sorry to rain on your recruitment post but I thought people might want to know what they are getting into. Obviously if you really enjoy it you should post why for the counterpoint.

The insidious thing is that it's actually fun as hell for about a week.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't mind spending money on casual games; like if you buy boosters or whatever for Candy Crush, you'd probably love it.

The only game I play on IOS that I'm dedicated to is Galaxy on Fire Alliances, I really recommend you play this, at last give it a try!

I like clash of clans. I don't think it is pay to win to the degree that Ouze has stated. I put $10 into it and did get a 4th builder. You get your third easily by getting gems from achievements.

The upgrade times for me are at two days for my current level. .

I think it is a pretty good game.

I gave up clash as it sadly is as big a money sink as ouze says. At a certain point you will either have to make your base into a farm style just to slowly get enough to build each upgrade which takes days or weeks. or you will find your base raided and lose trophies from those who have spent cash.

It is fun until about level 35 / town hall 6 after that to be anyway successful you need to put cash or serious months of farming in.

Used to be in a big clan, getting lots of def tips and so forth, But yeah as it's evolved, its a pay to win game, not really a pay to cosmetic game.

Unless significant changes in the near future, I'll be leaving it.
