I just realized the other day that the old "Incoming!" order is no longer available to officers. I haven't played any games since the new codex dropped, but I'll have to rethink my strategy a bit. The old order would force a unit to go to ground, but they would receive a +2 cover save from doing so instead of the regular +1 cover save, similar to the bonus one gets for going to ground behind an aegis defense line.

This was particularly useful for regular guardsmen holding an objective. The normal 5+ from being obscured by other units would become a 3+, the normal 4+ from being in ruins would become 2+. Most of the new orders seem to be offense and mobility related now.

I agree it's a shame it's gone, but the new orders are good enough that I'm not too bothered. The 2+ behind an ADL was a neat trick, and I admit to using it, but I never really enjoyed it (except the look on my opponents face when the Railgun blast landed, hit a bunch of guys and I started rolling 2+ saves ). The new orders promote aggression and mobility, and that's fine by me.

Send in the next wave... (not that we can do that, any more, either.)

I personally never used Incoming all that much, I think the loss of twin link hurts way more if you were using regular guardsmen. Don't get me wrong, monster hunter and tank hunter are great, but not if you can't actually hit your targets.

To be honest I never used the 'Incoming' order. The other orders were far more useful.

And if you go to ground in area terrain you get the +2 cover save anyway, so it was never that amazing anyway.

Not a loss for me, especially with how good and flexible the new orders are.

But with dirt-cheap Primaris Psykers getting divination, you can do both! Re-roll hits and Armour Pen.

Absolutely, that is one aspect of the new codex that I haven't seen many people talk about; the cost of units. A lot of stuff has gotten cheaper points wise which is awesome.

Yeah, I know, the Primaris Psyker can do the twin-linking for me, but that's another 50 pts I wasn't spending before and it twin-links one unit instead of 2. Ah well, just have to deal with it I suppose.

Same for me. Sad to see it go, but only used it maybe twice.

Of course, this is Ailaros the "charge forward you abblative fools!" guard commander. The idea of making a squad useless for a turn just to save its skin a little bit longer never had much appeal to me.
