So is GW being sleezy and asking people to buy 8th editon rules then releasing 9th edition in a few months, or it means no 9th editon anytime soon?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I wonder if that says anything about the rumored 9th edition of WHFB.

$32.99, same price as the 40k rulebook. It's good these are priced more reasonably, especially since they're in digital format.

And $20 nets you the Island of Blood rulebook either locally or online. When I played Rats, I split several IoB sets for $40 for each model set and $20 for the core rulebook. Worked out as a great deal for all parties!

Not cheap enough, as usual, I mean unless you ignore that market. Then again, I suspect GW will axing those rules in the starter kits in the future so they can make those digital "no-cost" products seem like the real value point.

I can carry the rulebook plus the army books for any army I might be playing that day. Or I can carry an iPad and have all the rulebooks, army books, and codexes that I own.

Convenience has value. Just saying.

EDIT: Why is this news? They released the digital version last December. Oh, it's the "eBook". Never mind.

Yeah, and I suspect every purchase will come with a free shot to the nutsack from now on, etc, etc.

Only if you're lucky. Many believe that GW is currently researching methods to replace all rulebooks with live scorpions.

I thought this... But in reality it isn't as convenient. The interactive iPad versions are large and swapping between codexes, rule books etc in iBooks is slow in addition getting to the section you want can be fiddly. Guess that's one reason why they have the summary sections in the codexes.

I find during games it's easier and quicker flicking through the actual books.

GW have said that they wouldn't release a digital version of something if it's going to get updated with a new book in a few months time.

I have a blog, check it out - http://forthegloryofgorkandmork.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/tau-xv8-02-commander.html - brand new post 11/04/13

"Hey GW, would you every lie to us?"
GW executive "no"

Think about it, then look at past history.

Fellow dakkanites reported a store manager telling a youngblood to buy the old codex DAYS before the preorder for the new one started.

My wife wanted to surprise me for graduation with my masters degree and bought me the new fantasy rule book. I told her I was saving up for it and she went to buy it for me. The shop sold her the wrong rule book - 6th edition when 7th edition came out that morning. They wouldn't take it back which pissed me off SO much. I had the receipt and everything. My response is to not shop there ever again. I'm surprised they are still in business.

Just a thought guys as I cant say I have ever used an ebook.

Can you use the galaxy tab and have two windows open with say a codex/army book in one window and the rule book in another?

I do agree that having all your books in one spot with an iPad is great, but they are super fiddly when actually using them in a game. If you play a single force, you're good, but even with just basic allies, it can be a pain to swap books.

If you run a primary, allied, inq detachment and a knight detachment? Better memorize!
