Alright so I want to do some veteran Conversions for my new guard

I am going to do a mix of Catachan and Cadian Bits. So for my sergeant I wanted him to have a "Las-Carbine" that could be used as either a Las-Pistol or Shotgun, so I did a Quick Mock Up and wanted to get some of your opinions.

I was also wondering if this is game legal so long as I informed my opponent what the Carbine was at the start of the game.

Well, strict wysiwyg says that the mini should have a las pistol or a shotgun. That said, I'd play you with your sarges modelled up like that. As long as all of them have either the las-pistol or the shottie.

Seems good to be. It's clearly not a Bolter or Plasma Pistol (The only other options), so as long as you state whether it's a Las or a Shottie, then you'd be fine.

Right, the issue is that it gets confusing if you say "well this guy is modelled with a las-carbine that counts as a las-pistol, but that oneis modelled with a las-carbine, but it counts as a shottie". As long as you are consistent, no problem!

Your mockup looks great by the way! Be sure to post up some when you get the project going.

I like it. Personally, I think it's stupid that Guard Sergeants can't take lasguns. Not only does it make them obvious to snipers (shoot the guy with the big sword!) but I could really use the extra firepower sometimes...

Depending on how many you need, it might be worth it to just buy a couple boxes of the command squads. You get a good load of awesome bitz in both the cadian and catachan ones. Might even want to look up the scion sprues to see if you want to grab a box of those as well.

A small bit of tac (Sticky stuff, it changes name depending on country) on the base of say all the "Counts as shottie" ones and the remaining are the pistols. We do this if we need a counts as because we have found the biggest peeve as mentioned is either you or your opponent not knowing whats what. So that's just a suggestion

yes this all seems fair

My veterans all carried las-carbines at one time to count as shotguns. ( I was thinking the difference between an M4 and an M16 = lascarbine vs a lasgun).

I'm just going to pay the 1 point bolter tax now for the extra firepower....
