This is my 10th plus time at trying to paint yellow and it's destroying my will to paint ! Can anyone help me out with suggesting on how to get it looking better im seeing loads of super models on here but i can't get there. Do you think battle damage would help the model look better i'm truly stuck .

I think it looks good a little closer to orange than yellow but good none the less. Many people recommend painting yellow ontop of a white base cost or primer.

You are aware the yellow mini you have there is better than most people can paint anyways .... I think it looks fantastic myself.

Thats a pretty sweet looking yellow you have right there. It is leaning toward orange but still recognisably yellow and far better than most yellow you'd find on peoples minis.

Maybe try it a touch brighter then? I thought it looked fine anyway.

Hmm, you know.. if you ignore the cracks in the armour which break up the colour, the main difference I can see is that the highlights on the terminator are much harder, with the most obvious examples being on the edge of the plates. Try some yellow + bleached bone to give some sharp, pale highlights on the edges and you should find that it makes the whole scheme more yellow (on average!)

Personally, I love how you have painted that mini. Looks great man, definitely way better than my IF mini's

Does any one think that battle damage with enhance the look??

Your models only a couple shades from that termy. Yours isn't shades as heavily in the recesses which makes your yellow seem more orange and flat. You need to go more brown in the deeper cracks, then you need to highlight it with a much brighter shade of yellow and maybe white on extreme edges.

Your yellow is fine, it's just a lack of high contrast that is making the model appear flat.

Try very carefully applying washes of earthshade to only the recesses.

I've found with yellow that you have to over-highlight to get it looking bright, so try an additional shade or two lighter on top of what you have.
As with the others, I think it looks great. I'd put yellow up there with white for difficulty in getting it crisp, clean and bright, and it's affected so much by what colour you choose for the basecoat/shading.
Good job!

I'm going to try putting sepia into the recesses and mixing bright yellow and bleach bone in the extreme highlights , does any know the method for doing battle damage or a link please.

I'd suggest just brining all your colours 'up' one shade and it'll be much more to your liking I'd say

Deeper shading and stronger highlights on the model with a yellow glaze on top will make a very strong, striking yellow. Glazing is a very underused technique, but it will really pull the colors together.

Not sure specifically what is upsetting you...

I can kind of see how it looks a bit flat. Yellow is quite a light colour, so you might need to do a bit more black-lining than you normally would. The sepia looks nice for soft shadows, but it isn't dark or contrasty enough to pick out the hard edges and details. Also it doesn't look as though you've done any highlights on the yellow yet, so it might be a bit early to be feeling defeated.

Doesn't that painter also post touched up his photos as well (not to detract from it or anything)

I think your yellow is near spot on just a little less shaded compared. Also it seems just finishing up the rest of the mini and possibly adding a little bit of wear and tear to break apart the large yellow areas would help a lot.

Insanity is just a prognosis for those who can see the truth @$@%

Nice yellow just darker version of it just looks orange because dark yellow tends to. Orange is just a tanned yellow don't listen to the man it not a real thing maybe.

you do realize that you've got a lot more on yellow than most other people do? After struggling I inevitably gave up and ended up with the neon toy look:

I recognize that the paint is just really awful, but if the color is in your interest and you're open to anything.... i started out with tau sept ochre or vomit brown, layerd on yriel, then flashgitz, and finally flashgitz mixed with screaming skull/ushtabi bone. The vomit brown was required because I was a nard and primed black, but I was satisfied with the effect on models that weren't primed black.

I feel your pain , i'm going to try adding white to the mix see what that does also thinking of some battle damage .

You have also missed a couple of details on the legs and around the waist that are typically painted a colour other than yellow.

If you paint those it will separate and break up the massive amount of yellow that you have in the middle of the model.

You fade the highlights too bright imo. The chest looks off.

I think it looks like NMM antique gold. I wish I'd caught you and told you not to use white in the mix. I find light cream colours work better for brightening up a shade, while white tends to look more like a hard reflection.

I think il stick with the highlighted hard edge but i will tone it down a little def going the right direction though i feel.

To tone it down, try a yellow glaze, it'll tie the sharp highlights into the base.

Also, if possibly, look at the mini on a black/dark base, as I think the yellow it's mounted on eliminates contrast. I think if you put it on a dark base, it'll look beyond brilliant.

Generally easy things to do is add wear and tear type damage like around elbow and knee pads, hands and feet as they would be running through brush and rubble.

The chainsword could be taking a beating as well.

Also dusting the model up lightly like on the feet would be a nice add depending on your basing theme
