But to be honest this is pretty close to those drop dead gorgeaus chicks on facebook complaining about how ugly they are...

I dunno about that... He didn't say that he couldn't paint. He said that his yellow isn't coming out how he wants it. Being blessed with good looks isn't really a learned 'skill' like painting either. Asking for feedback and advice is how people learn and advance. Just because he's already accomplished at painting, doesn't mean he should stop trying to improve. On the contrary, it is probably that attention to detail that made him good in the first place.

@ the OP:

I think the yellow is lacking vibrance. It's so muted that it is half way to being a sort of khaki sand colour. The sepia shadows aren't really helping with that, as they are also brown, and then white highlights also don't do anything to help. What is really missing here is yellow.

My recommendation would be to try and go over it lightly with a nice bold yellow glaze. That would help you get a bit more colour into the midtones and shadows, and you'd get some nice bright yellow highlights instead of just white (you could always add a bit of white back in after for the spectacular highlights). I really think that would help to tie the colours together a bit more.

Some great advice here, i've only really used three paints 2 yellows and white with a wash of sepia. Maybe il try better lighting as it looks a lot different in person to what it does from the photo.

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

For armour chipping, I mix black with a tiny bit of metallic so it almost glints, and paint it on in small dots or cracks, around which I then highlight to make it look like chipped/flaking paint edges.

Don't do metalics on yellow infantry, it won't look right. For light models you want to chip them with a dark shade. Just hand paint them in with scorched brown or preferably Valejo charred brown (VGC is so much better IMO) then use your highlight color on the bottom edge. If you want to go further you can revers highlight the top inside edge with a darker tone.

When i paint yellow orange or gold i base it in balor brown (or snake bite leather in old money) then layer up the colour from there. Where balor is a yellow based brown it works rwally well for a start.
