Currently, the major engagements are the 13th Black Crusade around the Cadian Gate, Armageddon is dragging on ad infinity, and the Octarius War between the Orks/Tyranids is getting so bad that the Eldar are burning planets around the Empire to contain whichever race manages to win.

Elsewhere, the Segmentum Pacificus has erupted into a mass revolution due to the Chaos influenced Night of a Thousand Rebellions. Subsector Aurelia suffered three major crusades at the end of M41/start of M42 (see Dawn of War).

The Imperium is gearing up for a counterattack against the Tau in the Damocles Gulf as well.

Outside of that, there's the fluff from Imperial Armor, but not all of it is technically "current" 40K. They're a few centuries apart I think.

Think of something clever to say.

Emphasis, just an edit for accuracy.

Also Tyranids, from Kraken/Leviathan are charging towards Terra from below, and Baal is gonna get attacked by them soon. Chaos is also joining the Baal party.

Necrons are also waking, heavily near the Eastern Fringe (due to Imotekh, Anrakyr, and Szarekh leading the charge).

The Phalanx is currently being invaded by the Warsmith Shon'Tu and Belakar the first Daemon Prince while most of the Imperial Fists are away so they can hijack it and use it to attack Terra. They're being held off by the Sentinals of Terra (3rd Company of Imperial Fists) and the Legion of the Damned.

Actually the Death Korps and Minotaurs already lost:

The Orpheus sector gets gutted by the Necrons in 100 days. An Imperial campaign to retake the sector called the Orpheus Salvation campaign is launched but it fails since 7 years later, in 999.M41, the Orpheus sector is officially dissolved and the region re-classified again as wilderness space. All of this is from the same Imperial Armour book. It's just not spelled out explicitly so you have to link the two facts.

The largest single battle in 40k is the war for Octarious as countless Orks and Tyranids stream into the sector to have the greatest punch out yet seen by two species who thrive on war and conflict.

I'd love some stories to be written about it.

The wording of the edict dissolving the Orpheus Sector includes: "Of the Forces Imperial currently contesting its remaining domains of the aforementioned Sector, shall the gift of martyrdom be given with the Emperor's blessing. May their glorious struggles be long and bleed from the foe of the humanity its strength and number" so its still an active warzone - the Imperial forces therein have been abandoned and left to fight to the death.

I.e. The Orpheus Salvation campaign was lost. The Imperium is no longer trying to reclaim the sector and has dissolved it. The force still there have been written off and are not going to receive any support or reinforcements.

The most recent thing that comes to my mind about the Iron Warriors is Hive Fleet Leviathan annihilating Forgefane, which was one of the most defended planets of the Iron Warriors, in like a week.
The Iron Warriors lost an entire Grand Company and 600 Defilers, but they managed to force the Tyranids to escalate things quite fast, resisting assaults led by multiple Bio-Titans and only falling when the Hive Mind decided to spam Trygons to undermine the defenses with subterranean assaults.

On the other hand, the War Smith decided to charge a Trygon on his lonesome and predictably got eaten.

Well, it's not like nids can do anything else. Nids having diplomatic relations, cultural exchanges, garrisoning territory, defending innocents, political intrigue, worshipping gods, stealing archeotech... yea, not gonna happen.

Well yeah but they need to do something about it I'm sure even chaos doesn't want The material world destroyed cause then there would be no one to corrupt

Chaos is so focused on the IoM that they don't seem to know much about other larger threats (Nids and Necrons).
Also its not like they have much options, the only Chaos force capable of facing Leviathan in even terms would be the 13 Black Crusade, which is at the other side of the Galaxy and has its own problems.

Well, 4th Edition Tyrannids codex has a quote from a chaos sorceror, "This is our galaxy. Ours to corrupt. Ours to enslave. The gods will not be denied their prize."

Which is probably how most of Chaos feel about the Tyrannids. Whether or not they're underestimating them is more the question, although I imagine Tzeentch at least is considering them into his plans. Even Tzeentch might have been a bit blindsided by their arrival though, as shown in that daemon tyrannid battle in the latest Codex where the daemons weren't completely 100% aware of the tyrannids' nature (nor the tyrannids of the daemons, to be fair).

Are the tyranids really aware of anythings nature besides it's edibility?

Hive intellect forms an entity of some form of intelligence enough to perform adaption and strategies. As per Tyrannids, they basically think of daemons as a fellow predator or something.

To be fair it's hard for chaos to pay as much regard considering the best they can do is corrupt Tyranids into mutants that get disconnected from the hivemind (which means basically very little of value). As per chaos, considering how their plan functions, as long as they can push forth enough through Imperial forces with minimal opposition from other factions, in other words if the crimson path plan works, they will expand the warpy areas increasing their own might and arguably continuing to make a more protected food source. Get it too big and even Necrons can't just start blowing it up.

They are aware of the abilities, strengths and weakness of their prey. They also are aware of other factors like psychology (for breaking prey's morale).
In a nutshell, if it is useful for their main objective (eating), then they are interested on it.
Also they actually can absorb knowledge from their prey (by specialized creatures like the Lictor eating the brain).
