Is orbital bombardment worth considering if you're not using a relentless CM?

If so, what's the best way to use it?

Well since you get it for free anyway, it's absolutely worth having, relentless or not.

If you don't move on a turn, use it then on something you absolutely want gone or on the nearest immediate threat to your most important unit(s)

True, I guess I should have rephrased the question to what is the best way to utilize it without relentless?

You can still fire it off and charge, but that seems awful risky.

Without relentless, you'll probably forget about it. But considering the most popular CM build includes a bike, the point is often moot.

Extra wound and attack go a long way. Having him tank out front of devestator squad, who he camps to counter charge later.

I have him drop in pod with combo melta sternguard with chains, makes them extremely hard to deal with. Gives me that backfield alpha strike. I tend not to get bombardment off, until turn thtee if he survived, as turn 2 usually moving, I have left him behind and shot.

What about after disemarking from a Land Raider?

I've seen him attached to a TFC for the OB. That was pretty funny.

The TFC would give him pretty good accuracy when firing his Orbital paired with the FTC barrages.

You can get relentless from Biomancy, roll him up with some Centurions or Terminators buffed up.

If you're not using the bombardment, is the extra attack and wound worth it ?

Yes.

Wound maybe, attack no, in my opinion. The main reason I take my CM is to unlock honour guard. If I didn't plan on having the honour guard, I'd probably use the captain as my CC beatstick. If you don't give him T5 or eternal warrior somehow, the extra wound won't mean much as people will probably target him with big stuff.

Wasn't there a faq for orbital bombardment and multiple barrage . So that people couldn't just buy a mortar team for a master of ordnance

The extra wound doesn't seem like much, but it's a very important (I've played soooo many games where that extra wound saved my bacon). Orbital Bombardment and an extra attack is just gravy.

To answer the OP's question: yes if you're using him as an immobile shield for a Devastator or Centurion squad. Though even in this case it makes sense to have a bike commander (20pts for T5 is sometimes an okay deal).

Chapter Master is amazing even if you take out the OB. He is a real beast in close combat.

No he can't hop from land raider and fire ob. Disembarking is moving.
