So I am busy converting a Taurox and some Scions into my Skaven/Ratman guard thingy. I got this box full of Skaven kit sprue's for parts. While cutting bits from the Screaming Bell kit I can't help but prick my fingers on those spikes covering the chains and other parts. It's like handling needles, they make me bleed. So I have to take a break and allow the tiny wounds to dry or I get little spots of blood everywhere. This is the second time this happens with this kit. (The first one is ready to paint along with some clan rats waiting in a box on my shelves.)
I put bandaids on my thumb, index and middle fingers as a means of padding when handling it.

So what other kits draw peoples blood right out of the box. Sharp molded edges and spikes and the likes.

We all occasionally cut our selfs with our hobby knife by accident. But what other kits and miniatures seem to be made to murder our hands and how do you handle them?

I took a massive slash out of my finger with my knife the other week. I've only ever seen as much blood a few times before.

I have been using a tiny circular saw from Proxxon. I never got that in me thank goodness. That little thing looks like it would also hurt like a mother-.

A yes I got stabbed by metal flash. I think the oxidation layer or the cleaning agent are the things that make it burn. Nothing like having a metal splinter that burns as well.

I had a couple of those made of metal. The surface was just too smooth to get any grip on small parts.

Ork Killa Kans and many Chaos kits have a ton of sharp parts. I've pricked my finger now and again. More blood for the Blood God, I suppose.

What you need are calluses. Either take up a construction trade or you can cheat and use superglue. If you "accidentally" get some superglue on the main grabbing parts of your thumb, pointer and index finger it'll make it a lot harder to give yourself minor pricks and nicks. Part two of this advice column will be posted tomorrow. "How to separate fingers you "accidentally" superglued together."

clipping things. Clipping things and having clipped pieces go flying into my eyes. Even when I'm wearing safety glasses. Apparantly objects are allowed to collide with random air particles such that trajectories change at 90*..... Then there's always sliced up thumbs and fingers, nothing big though. The worst I had was an incident with a saw... I don't know how to describe it, but the joint on my thumb will flare up, and it's this tension, soreness very mild pain and fair bit of discomfort. I've noticed the throb/ache getting worse as time goes on.

Since we are on the topic of sliced up horses, are we talking about "the cell"?

I saw those at the army dump store where I bought my winter hat. Kinda thick for my taste also reasonably expensive. All though I have considered them they would just end up in a drawer.

Couple times, but never as a hobby related accident. I've scored down the back of my thumb with a hobby knife (don't work with kids around).

Other then that I've torn the flesh from the lower sections of my finger down to muscle. And that's not fun.

I now take care around knives and sharp implements.

Ah, you see, I did the fingers thing with a rope. I watched a guy slash his palm with a knife at work. That's where the 'take care around knives' lessons began to sink in.

Worst I've done is trying to cut the plastic out of the slot on a slotta base, the knife went through the plastic and straight into the fleshy part of the thumb. Had to superglue it shut.

My brother dropped a knife on his finger and had to get butterfly stiches.

My uncle was doing model railway and dropped his scalpel on his leg and very narrowly missed the artery in his thigh.

Was making terrain late one night & know that dull blades are dangerous so when my scalpel got blunt I knew I had to change the blade to avoid it slipping & causing an accident. Always afraid of slicing my fingers I opted to push the new blade on with a pair of pliers - big mistake. A few seconds later - blood every where! I think the only thing that stopped the blade going all the way through was the bone. Managed to severe the nerve which has never healed. Feels like when you wrap an elastic band around your finder.
