Okay for you that don't know in "The Sun" ( A popular british newspaper.) there was an article about my home town of wisbech, a town that is often in the news despite it's small size for the violence and immigration. Yesterday it was revealed the extent of immigration, out of a population of 28000, 6000 are lithuanian (there are other groups but that is the biggest) something that doesn't really suprise those of us living here, but is that so bad? I remember a BBC documentary a few years back called "The day the foreigners left." Showing how incompetent and lazy the british workforce were, We have industry in this country, but do we deserve it?
I personally love wisbech we have a vibrant culture and can buy food from all across eastern-europe, most of the lithuanians and poles speak english and there is a large portugese community as well. Tensions can rise but as long as your not stupid or racist then frankly you can go out on weekends without it being WORSE than other big cities.
I'm asking for opinions from anyone else who lives in a diverse cities or towns.
Here is the article being reported in my local paper.

Peterborough is supposedly a first-stop for Poles, and that's just up the road.
For a small-ish town, it can cause a lot of tension, like a caravan site on the outskirts or something.
[6,000 out of 28,000 is roughly 2%, so nothing huge. - wrong...] The immigrant population could easily hit 30% though, and that's a huge chunk of town.
Coventry is fairly small for a city, being next to Birmingham, but we're seen as a pretty diverse place. I don't hear about any trouble caused by this, and there's always something happening for various festivals and events.
If everyone does a bit to fit in, and if no-one forces anything on the others, it can make for a more lively place to live.

This is something that galls about the BBC and government, both this and previous administrations.
If someone was to say "Showing how incompetent and lazy the black workforce were," it would be completely unacceptable.
However it is perfectly acceptable to be racist towards the 'British'. Racism is rife in the workplace and the bigotted myth that because someone comes from eastern Europe or the Indian subcontinent they are 'better workers' is doing many British people out of jobs.
The Speaker of the House was caught endorsing that twaddle:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/10099705/John-Bercow-migrants-are-better-workers.html
and was rightly castigated for it, though not entirely for the right reasons.
Fact remains there is now a gross over-proportion of ethnic workers in the civil service, officially the UK is 13% non-white, but civil service jobs do not reflect this total fairly. Even at the height of 'political correctness under New Labour many are refused applications due to 'positive discrimination'. I knew one gent who does first aid training courses because he cannot get into the ambulance service, as of 2010 he was turned down twice due to ethnic recruiting policies. This is far from a single example, I only mention thoae I personally know, from third party sources this circumstance is considered widely familiar.
Another aquaintance in the building trade cant get work, regardless of experience because the jobs go automatically out to eastern europeans, in fact the building trade is a very good example where this phenomena really bites. On many sites only the management are British, and foremen increasingly must speak foreign languages by requirement, thus endorsing discrimination by the front door.
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/03/24/labour-house-building-skills-uk_n_5022001.html
Useful article but training wasn't really the issue, as on the job training is provided if the person is on an eligible race for employment. For example a depot manager I know found that the majority of the Polish drivers hired to carry materials trucks didn't even have driving licences, yet they were priority hired. One caused so much damage due to total inexperience of handling an HGV that a French lorry driver agreed to shop him on the way over the channel.
Of course I cannot and will not claim all Eastern European workers are unqualified or otherwise crooked, but there is a huge disproportion of people hired regardless of qualifications due to ethnicity and bigoted attitudes of them being a better workforce as a result.
Its a wonder why fewer people have caught on that this nation while expressing anti-racist and multi-cultural credentials, crassly and often heavy handedly cannot see or deal with blanket widespread discrimination against British people. Isnt it time we stopped racism for real, rather than racism for some.
Anyway back to the BBC, I am sure they can find plenty of workshy British people, some might be simply that, others despondent from lack of opportunity. However if they looked a bit deeper they could see workshy individuals and groups of all ethnicities. If they were filmed and it was taken to be indicative of minorities as a whole, what would the reaction be?

The "British" aren't a race, anyway.
I daresay all the work-shy Lithuanians and Poles stay at home and we get the cream of the crop.
Which just goes to show the bad effect of immigration.
Wisbech is one of those names that sounds like it should be somewhere else. It sounds Welsh to me.
Billericay sounds like it should be in Ireland, but it's in Essex.
Back on topic, 25% of the population of London were born somewhere else, and the city is one of the top five in the world for just about everything.

Just about everywhere I have worked has had a large percentage of immigrants (10-20%ish) and I have never once experienced any issues with it.
At the end of the day absolutely everyone is an immigrant or is descended from immigrants so the default position should be one of acceptance unless there is a genuine reason for concern. Its a shame that the wider immigration 'debate' is closer to hysteria thanks to ignorance and our 'world class' print media.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Poles and most eastern europeans are fine, when they don't reveal themselves to be racists feths. Sadly, I've never met a russian person who wasn't simply a horrible human being. One even managed insulting me for being a sovereignist, as she was commiting treason.
Belgians here can't seem to shut up and accept that we don't share their islamophobia.
Latin people are awesome, and the world needs more of them, everywhere.

Except that's never going to be the case. There are perfectly legitimate concerns, even for a multicultural society, when immigration starts replacing reproduction has the main mean of growth. Multiculturalism isn't a ''value-less'' environnment, and whenever two sets of value collide, there's going to be incidents.
While the Charter debate here is ridiculous, you do have to wonder if its perfectly okay for kindergarten workers to wear the burqa. And 'wonder', here, doesn't turn you into a racist donkey-cave.

Thank you, too many people are afraid to speak out because of the fear of being labeled a bigot.
Those that do find only the far right listen, this can't help matters.

Wisbeach, Peterborough, Spalding, Boston are all known for their immigrant populations.
Most of these workers service the agricultural sector, from picking veg to processing it in local factories. In my previous dealings I have found the Poles, Lithuanians and latvians to be hard working, hard drinking sons of guns.
The portos are brilliant too!
There are some bad apples amongst them but by and large they are here to work and respect where they live. Just like the 'native' population.
Oh the Latvians are cutthroat car part dealers. Absolutely fething bonkers in that sector. But they pay their way so...........
