Hello everyone, after many months of searching for a suitable second army for my Elysian Drop Troops I was sitting down discussing with my mates which xenos faction I should consider doing as I have a very bad habit of making up my mind. During the conversation my buddy mentioned "Why not just do another different Guard army? You always have loved playing them." Lets just say that advice has inspired me to build not only a pure Stormtrooper army as well (Codex Militarium Tempestus) as yet another bad ass Forgeworld Regiment, the Death Korps of Krieg. And after seeing the winter themed paint job done here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/273313-Engineers.html?m=2 and here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/273314-Leman%20Russ%20Vanquisher.html?m=2

However if they ever come out with plastic or fine cast Steel Legion models ill be sorely tempted to use that Regiment. I am giving my Armored Company the title of the 7th Armored Division or "Ghost Division" named after Erwin Rommel's Panzer Division that so successfully used the Blitzkrieg tactic against the French and English in early WWII. Both fitting in regards to the history of the name and the winter theme I will be going with, that and ALOT of tanks. As usual any comments, thoughts and posts on this are very much appreciated. Thanks for posting guys!

FAST ATTACK:

HEAVY SUPPORT:

TOTAL ARMY: 2000 POINTS

Model Count:

-x8 Leman Russes (x4 Punishers, x2 Vanquishers & x2 Demolishers)
-x52 Infantry (x50 are Scoring)
-x1 Flyer

Tactics:

-x8 Leman Russes (x4 Punishers, x2 Vanquishers & x2 Demolishers) providing a solid wall of fire with the x2 Squadrons and x2 individual tanks to spread out the amount of fire and targets I can focus on. The Primaris Psykers will follow the Squadrons around and give them Twin Linked making them even more nasty.

-x50 infantry moving forward pumping shots downfield and protecting the Leman Russes. All have Grenadiers to make them a little more durable against both Space Marines and Tau.

-The Vendetta is my primary anti-air while also providing some additional anti-tank for the rest of my army

I kind of like the idea, but the list has a lot of problems.

Vanquishers and punishers dont mix, 24 inch range is easy to avoid in vanguard or longways deployment.

Possibly have the commanders in a punisher with a demolisher attached to each.

Then have the vanquishers with las and multimeltas hanging back with the primaris psykers.

Use the points gained by dropping the 2 russes to give your troops camo, grenadiers and plasmaguns. You can go to ground in area terrain for a 2+ and most ignore cover weapons only have AP5 or worse.

Swap the vendetta for armoured sentinels (3 in individual units is good) to use as countercharge/tarpit units.

Understand some of what you mean but some of the other stuff you mention kinda confuses me, for example:

Vanquishers and punishers dont mix, 24 inch range is easy to avoid in vanguard or longways deployment.

Split Fire order solves this problem of not being able to shoot same target but do understand the range restriction and have thought about taking Exterminators instead. However you then mention this:

Then have the vanquishers with las and multimeltas hanging back with the primaris psykers.

You just told me that they dont mix because of range issues so why give them Multi-Meltas? If I did that might as well keep them with Punishers.

Use the points gained by dropping the 2 russes to give your troops camo, grenadiers and plasmaguns. You can go to ground in area terrain for a 2+ and most ignore cover weapons only have AP5 or worse.

This I actually like and understand, why x1 Squad has it so they can hang back on an objective while others advance on objectives. Lack of points only reason why, and no Special Weapons to save points for more Tanky goodness!

Swap the vendetta for armoured sentinels (3 in individual units is good) to use as countercharge/tarpit units.

Dont agree with this as if I lose the Vendetta I have no AA capability with this list at all. Now realize im not arguing all your points as I do appreciate the advice, just discussing the list which is the whole point.

The best thing about 24' range tanks with tank commanders is that you get them to go flat-out to get them into a good position if your opponent stays out of range. So that is great if you need to get your punishers up the board. But you will then loose you vanquisher fire, which is something you want first turn, especially if I have a ravager, or manticore or something similar that is a huge threat to your army. Putting a punisher and demolisher together is good because if you need to flat-out them you arent sacrificing any firepower. Your vanquishers can then go to work straight away.

The vanquishers would still be advancing, and sponson multimeltas a cheap and good. Mixed with primaris psykers they are great, they are even decant against fliers.

How about something like:

Tanks Commander - Punisher w Heavy Bolters + Demolisher
Tanks Commander - Punisher w Heavy Bolters + Demolisher
Primaris
Primaris
Vets - Camo, Carapace, 2 Flamers, Heavy Flamer
Vets - Camo, Carapace, 3 Plasma
Vets - Camo, Carapace, 3 Plasma
Vets - Camo, Carapace, 3 Plasma, Flakk Missiles
Vets - Camo, Carapace, 3 Plasma, Flakk Missiles
Vendetta
Vanquisher - Lascannon, Sponson Multimeltas
Vanquisher - Lascannon, Sponson Multimeltas

Probably still not enough tanks for you :-)

Better yet put your list together and try it out using some proxies to see hoe it works.

I would also agree with splitting the punishers and vanquishers up.

If anything run exterminators or standard russes with the vanquisher.

With the punishers run either demolishers, exterminators, or eradicators.
