I could use some advice on how to fight the new guard as a dark angels player. I'll assume a point cap of 900 - 1000pts games.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

Is either player using allies?

What type of force does each player play? ie mech vet, blobb, aircav, leman russ heavy for AM and Death Wing, Raven Wing, Green Wing for DA

DW at that pts level is pretty much impossible to make a work in a balanced manner.

RW could work well but how you use it will change a lot depending on the type of AM you fight.

GW scout army can work really well against AM but if the opponent is taking servo skulls from inquisition allies it will become less effective and how you use it will change drastically.

No allies as of yet. So I don't need to worry about that.

Its usually a big pile of guardsmen with conscripts and hw teams. With thanks supporting. And by tanks I mean hellhound/variants and lr/variants.

I also know that in higher point games he has fielded basilisks and a valk gunship.

I have mostly a Greenwing at my disposal but I have some funds set aside for 40k that have been burning a hole in my pocket so I can make adjustments

What sort of green wing army have you been running?

Interesting. If he throws in some primaris psykers and uses the right leman russ' then he has a very competitive list. AM is one of those dexs where almost any unit in the dex can be made good or useful.

It sounds like you can ignore the air component of the fight. This leaves you with a more limited number of issues to deal with.

It also sounds like you can concentrate more on killing the infantry and if you never get to the tanks you can still make a good game of it.

I don't suppose you happen to have 60 bolter scouts (combi melta/melta bomb sarges are my favorite as they give extra anti tank), 1 command squad w/ banner of devastation (Drop pod, DW, or RW all work), a whirlwind, and some decent anti tank (tri las preds are decent, firestorm redoubt has become a recent favorite of mine). The idea behind this list is to deploy the firestorm redoubt forward with the ravenwing command squad, bike libby, and whirlwind behind it. Depending on if you got first turn you deploy your scouts accordingly; if you get first turn deploy aggressively so you can drive your command squad forward and open up. Otherwise concentrate on getting enough cover to limit damage from first turn.

The whirlwind is useful for sniping out upgrades from the AM units. Also if the AM player bunches models around their priests/primaris feel free to make them pay for it.

One of the big strengths of this type of list is that it has 12 scoring units when you combat squad. It is extremely difficult to wipe out that many scoring units and if you get the alpha strike you will average 80 wounds on AM infantry...brutal.

A dreadnaught with a heavy flamer in a drop pod that has a locator beacon. Then two Assault squads with x2 flamers/combi flamers to deep strike at him. Spend the rest of your points on scoring units and whirlwinds. Throw in a few lascannons for good measure.
