Hi all. Just about to re-enter the hobby after a while away when I saw the new Astra/IG codex was coming out. so, here is the list:

HQ:

Company Command Squad
- Bolter
- 4 Sniper Rifles
- Master of Ordnance
- Fleet Officer
109pt

Pask Led Vanquisher Squadron
- 2x Vanquishers
- Lascannons
- Multi-meltas
- Camo netting
430pt

Troops:

'A' Infantry Platoon

- Platoon Command Squad
- Mortar
- Bolter
36pt

- 3 x Infantry Squad
- Bolter
- Grenade Launcher
- Autocannon
75pt Each
Total: 261

Veterans Squad
- 3 Plasma guns
- Carapace
- Bolter
121pt

Veterans Squad
- 3 Melta guns
- Bolter
91pt

Fast Attack

Valkyrie
- Rocket Pods
135pt

Vulture Gunship
- Twin-linked Punisher Cannon
155pt

Heavy Support:

Leman Russ Squadron
- 3 Leman Russ MBTs
- Heavy Bolter Sponsons
510pt

Avenger Strike Fighter
- 2 Autocannons
180pt

The thinking behind the list is elements of an Armoured Company supported by infantry. All of my AA comes from the Vulture and Avenger, both of which have good averages when it comes to scoring glancing hits against other flyers. The AT power comes from the HQ squadron, the airborne Veterans. and the Vulture/avenger if they survive. The five tanks all have sponsons mainly because all of my models have them, though, I'm not apposed to just ignoring them (with and informing opponents of course). I'm considering dropping the valkyrie, and putting two chimera in its place, which would fit the theme better.

Thoughts?

The Valkyrie's best role is anti-infantry with its rocket pods. I'd more quickly suggest dropping it for a squadron of two Wyverns. I use them now, and I've yet to see an infantry squad stand up to eight twin-linked shred blasts.

Why all the bolters?

Also, with all that infantry, you might consider a fortification. Locally, the single Wall of Martyrs bunker has been very popular. Basically a cheap mini-bastion. Throw a void shield on it, maybe an ammo dump, and stick your platoon command inside so the commander can use his BS4 on the gun.

Otherwise, looks serviceable. Have a chance to field it yet?

That's a good call actually. I forgot about Wyverns. I've even got a converted Giffon mortar chassis (chimera with no turret and open hatch/doors) I can futher modify to put a Quad gun in the back. Just need to get one more and job done.

The bolters are there because of aesthetics really, plus, its only 7 points for all of them as it is.

I've never used the fortifications etc, and I'm still pretty confused as to how they work, other than the Aegis Defence line, that seems simple enough, I've even got about 2 feet of the old GW sandbag lines (2002-4 I think?) still in great condition to represent it. Just need to model an Emplaced weapon for it, maybe a crew-less lascannon Sabre defence platform or a Tarantula?

Unfortunately, its still in transit, I recently moved to the US from the UK, and I'm still having it delivered... so yea haha.

This guy (pictured) is 50 points, and can take a lascannon or quad-gun with skyfire and interceptor. A void shield on it means anyone shooting at it or models on its battlements has to glance or pen AV12 first. The bunker itself is AV14, and eight models can use the fire points.

I've found a lot of opponents don't want to feel like they're wasting shots on such a cheap unit to kill the void shield and leave it alone. Stick your PCS in it (if you don't care about their orders), or a HWS with an attached commissar for the emplacement. Gives you some anti-air, and you can stick an objective by the door for last-turn scoring.

Ah, I think I get it now. Luckily I still have some self built bunkers etc from 3rd Edition so with a little tidying up, they should do nicely. A weapon team in there with a Shield and Quad gun could work. Its just what to replace. The valkyrie is the main option, along with the Melta Vets, giving me 226 points to play with.

You could consider dropping pask and getting a div psyker that would twin link both vanquishers and if you hit the order 2 different targets?

far too many points and still painting...

Its a fair idea, but Pask Himself would loose what amounts to tank hunters, which in itself significantly boosts the power of the secondary weapons on his tank. Running the numbers and factoring in the failure rate of prescience, Pask comes out on top, and thats without using his warlord trait (I ran sharp shooters in 4th, rerolling 1s is no a miracle worker it turns out at BS3 haha)

Still, I do kind of want to take a Primaris with Div. Mainly for booasting the rest of the army. Hmmm much to ponder. thanks guys.

Does Pask lose his warlord ability though due to the CCS?

I wouldn't have thought so, The warlord trait is based on LD, and Pask uses 9 for his commands...

Pask actually doesn't have a Leadership score, so yes, the CCS would have to be your Warlord.

Debated. The codex expressly states that tank commander may be taken as your warlord, a sentence needless for any model in HQ with a LD value. I'm not sure what the consensus is, but common sense would suggest this allows you to simply decide they are without comparing LD values. Rules in the codex take precedence and all.

Gotcha. I'll have to review the debate elsewhere since I'm my store's TO.
