Having a lot of success with this list. I tweak it after each game.
Primary Detachment: Astra Militarum
HQ
Company Command, lascannon, vox-caster - 85
Primaris Psyker - 50
Primaris Psyker - 50
TROOPS
Veterans, 3 plasma guns, Chimera - 170
Veterans, 3 plasma guns, Chimera - 170
Veterans, 3 plasma guns, autocannon, vox-caster, camo gear - 130
Veterans, 3 plasma guns, autocannon, vox-caster, camo gear - 130
HEAVY SUPPORT
2 Executioners, plasma sponsons - 370
2 Hydras - 140
2 Wyverns - 130
Allied Detachment: Militarum Tempestus
HQ
Tempestus Command, 4 meltaguns - 125
TROOPS
10 Scions, 2 meltaguns - 150
10 Scions, 2 meltaguns - 150
Notes: This list has proved hard-hitting and flexible. Recent changes include dropping psykers to mastery 1 (basically just looking for prescience at this point), adding vox, adding plasma sponsons to the Executioners, and swapping the Tempestus to melta from plasma. Looking forward to testing the changes next week!

Love it. Very very similar to the list I have been drifting towards. Though I have been giving my camo vets flakk missiles over hydras. I haven't run into any fliers yet and am hoping that tank-hunting flack missiles will get some work done. What armies have you played this style list against? My current version (sorry if this is derailing your thread, but your list will work almost the same and I am interested in your experiences with it): PRIMARY – Astra Militarum HQ Company Command – Master of Ordnance, Regimental Standard, Veteran Camo Gear Primaris Psyker – Force Axe Primaris Psyker – Force Axe TROOPS Veteran Squad – Forward Sentries, 3 x Plasmagun, Missile Launcher - Flakk Veteran Squad – Forward Sentries, 3 x Plasmagun, Missile Launcher - Flakk Veteran Squad – 2 x Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Chimera – Hull Heavy Flamer FAST ATTACK Scout Sentinel x 3 Armoured Sentinel x 3 – Plasma Cannonss Hellhound – Hull Multimelta HEAVY SUPPORT Leman Russ Punisher - Hull Heavy Bolter, Sponson Heavy Bolters Leman Russ Vanquisher - Hull Lascannon, Sponson Multimeltas Manticore ALLIES – Militarum Tempestus HQ Tempestus Command Squad – Bolt Pistol, 4 x Plasmagun TROOPS Tempestus Scion Squad x 5 – 2 x Meltagun Tempestus Scion Squad x 5 – 2 x Meltagun

Yeah, that's super-close. I think the missiles are a fine choice, and I've been considering Armoured Sentinels myself, though probably with lascannons. I always thought about outflanking Scout Sentinels with heavy flamers, too.
If you want to mow down infantry, a pair of Wyverns is really unrivaled, and cheaper than the Punisher or Hellhound. Remember, a Wyvern squadron's templates use multiple barrage rules, and they re-roll scatter and wounds. I routinely get ~20 wounds from mine, which only MEQ/TEQ can survive, and then only for one turn.
I've run variations of this list against Eldar and Tau so far, with resounding success. Neither was an exceptionally competitive list; I'm hoping for a game against a more typical Jetseer/Wraithwall list soon.

Curious as why there is a vox in the CCS but not in any other squads? Bolt guns for the sergeants instead if your not giving anyone else voxs?

When you roll your Scions, do you roll one reserve roll to bring them all in? How do you use them on the field? Are they just purely there for anti-tank? Do you use the scion orders? Which ones?

I'd mix melta and plasma, personally. 50/50 is a fine ratio. Plasma is better for MEQ/ TEQ and most MCs since you get more shots.
ultimentra wrote:When you roll your Scions, do you roll one reserve roll to bring them all in? How do you use them on the field? Are they just purely there for anti-tank? Do you use the scion orders? Which ones?
Mine are rolled one at a time. If they were an elite platoon under the AM codex or a formation with the MT codex, they'd come in with one roll.
Since I use them as allies, the troops are scoring. That's their primary use. I threw meltas in because they drop in very close, so I have some flexibility if I need to kill armor (or more likely, a fortification). I've been using the preferred enemy order, though that was with plasma. At BS4 they'll effectively only miss on a 2.

I only have three squads out in the open at deployment, and two have camo gear. I tend to just deny LOS on my CCS, and put the vets in ruins. My Wyverns and Hydras are long enough range I can put them basically anywhere.
I used to use the Aegis all the time, but without tons of infantry it hasn't proved necessary. A lot of guys locally have taken to the Wall of Martyrs Bunker instead. Same points, but an AV14 building with 8 fire points. It can take a void shield, too.

Yep, solely to make the Scions troop choices. I like dropping them in on my opponent's scoring units, wiping them off an objective, and claiming it for myself.

Its been a while since I played, so i forget, do units with the "deep strike" special rule also have the ability to outflank instead? I don th ink they do I think im thinking of stealth or infiltrate but not sure. This is a solid list!
If its alright with you I think i want to try it and use it as a base for my main list. personal preference I'd probably remove the vox casters and switch the Tempestus troop choices to have plasma guns and give the vets in Chimeras melta guns. That however leaves 25 extra points and I'm not sure where to put it. Id like to either add a tank commander for extra BS or a techpreist for Power of the Machine Spirit. none the less, I like this list a lot as it is and Ill probably start by running it with light proxy and making changes as I play it more.

Tenzilla, yeah, I deep strike all of them. Handy for taking my opponent's objectives.
ImpGuardPanzies, scout confers outflank, not deep strike. Otherwise I'd love to outflank them instead to avoid scatter.
Go for it! Tank Commander is 30 points, so you could move the Executioners to HQ. I actually ran the MT with plasma originally, and they work well for killing troops or MCs that way. Locally, I face a number of fortifications and very tough MCs, so melta was preferable after a couple playtests.

Scions are in the Am codex, but they also have their own MT codex.
Using MT lets them be scoring.

Well they actually are just troops in the MT book. Automatically Appended Next Post: Tenzilla wrote:Do your hydras see a lot of work? or do you find them snap firing at ground targets often?
If I recall correctly Im pretty sure the skyfire rule also allows hydras to fire normally at skimmers.

Nah, Eldar, Tau and Necrons have all flyers and skimmers for vehicles, and other codexes still have a few good targets. I have considered swapping to Armoured Sentinels with lascannons, but so far I've gotten plenty of use from the Hydras.
Gomericus wrote:Wouldn't the Militarum Tempestus fall under the elites choice as they are in the AM/IG codex with basically the same stats and options?
As a couple others said, I get Scions as troops by using the Militarum Tempestus codex as an allied detachment.

Suppose we could squeeze in the points for a tank commander, and move the tanks to HQ, would it be better to separate the Hydras into two squads? Or still keep them paired?
I like melta storm troopers, I used them a lot last codex, Idk that I would take a full squad of 10 just because they'll be targeting buildings/armor and cant split fire with MT codex. however because theyll be such a target I can see the larger numbers just for survivability. torn between numbers and plasma, or melta and feeling like I'm wasting guys :p

I like my CCS for orders, and I tend to prescience the Executioners, so the tank commander's not really necessary. Splitting the Hydras would work fine though, if going that route was useful.

I'm not a fan of bolters or shotguns, myself. I usually want a turn or two of longer range on my Vets, and rarely need to assault after a melta shot.
Vox on the mechvets seems awkward. You can't issue orders to an embarked unit. They'd have to get out first, and being mobile will be out of range of all but your Tempestus Command.
My personal opinion, the Vendetta is overcosted now. The most equivalent firepower is a HWS. Outside of that, your Manticore and LRBT are probably doing the job well. BTW, I really like Manticores.
I'd strongly suggest extra points go toward a Wyvern or two. My pair will scoop up a troop choice whole every turn, all by themselves. Automatically Appended Next Post: If you can't part with a heavy slot, Armoured Sentinels got cheaper. I think they're definitely worth it.

I agree, vox is overrated. I have only ever used shot guns with a flamer unit that i used to mop up stuff, it wasnt overwhelmingly successful. It worked about the same as an extra turn of shooting.
If you drop the voxs 25 pt the astropath 25 pts, the medic 15pts, thats enough to buy you 2 wyvren. with your remaining points.

the shotguns are because that's what i used in the previous version of the codex and so it's what my vets are equipped with as there the forge world hardened vets. the vox is a waste on the mech vets just so use to giving them vox i forget to remove it. as for the CCS i find all the pieces in there useful. i prefer the manticore to the wyvern.

Manticores and Wyverns do different things. Manticores pop heavy armor or hurt high-toughness targets. Wyverns mop up infantry. Take both if you can. If you're firing your Manticore at troops though, save 40 points and use a pair of Wyverns. You'll cause more wounds for fewer points.
