playing a game right now, charging a hammerhead/longshark he has a riptide within 6 inches for supporting fire. It reads any "model"with 6 inches can use supporting fire

Do vehicles get the perk of receiving benefits of supporting fire not just troops with characteristics?

Does he have his codex?
If yes, look under Supporting Fire.
If no...why are you playing someone without his codex?

Yes; The riptide is treated as if it were being assaulted for the purposes of overwatch.

While this is true, it does not matter, you can still Supporting Fire when a Skyray is getting assaulted

Oh, I will have to go check that it would be good to know. I though the all models had to have supporting fire for it to work.

The models providing Covering Fire have to have the rule, other than that so long as it is a friendly unit within Range they can overwatch(including a Space Marine, or Eldar unit getting charged)
