Is it safe to buy the SM codex with 7 coming out soon

If you are worried that 7th may render SM non-competitive, your guess is as good as mine.

If you are worried that GW may start selling a newer version of the codex, you may be onto something here. SM are one of the most popular armies and every edition they get an updated codex. I doubt it will be the first (orks should be next in line) but eventually it will come out.

Work in progress: a bit of everything

You are safe. The book just came out last year, so shouldn't be updated anytime soon.

While anything is possible, I don't see the SM codex being redone if that is what you mean. The not the 7th edition, ( I am sure it's just an updated 6th so no, not 7th edition, just combined with FAQ, and possibly Stronghold Assault and Escalation rules or mention to see those books for rules and stats if the rules are not in the BRB) shouldn't make the SM codex invalid by any means.

You are safe. Just like anything you buy though they can always invalidate the book, but GW has so far NEVER made a new codex within 1 year of making a codex, unless you think SM will be getting a 6.5 book. Again I don't see it happening like they did in 3rd edition.

TL;DR You are safe. Go ahead and have fun with Space Marines.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Then go for SM as their look and easiness to paint won't change

If you want to play IG, though, you better start now as the cost racks up really fast.

yeah I just started a guard army, it's gonna cost a TON to deploy. it's no suprise most guard armies are mech heavy, as an infantry heavy 1000 point list will cost a fortune.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

No.

Some of them are still booby-trapped. Hopefully 7th will render them inert and the codex can safely be used again.

Sometimes, Aliaros, SOMETIMES.

I think our friend's problem is he's expecting them to be updated very soon, since it's going to be Seventh edition and most popular codex that's updated before any of the codexes that need updates.

Oh. You can never be too careful though.

You should at least open the book for the first time pointed away from you.

At least, it seems more likely that the book is going to spray aerosolized anthrax spores into your face than 7th edition will do anything to destroy any amount of usefulness in SPACE MARINES.

Oh, good to see someone who is sure! So far I've all been able to find is speculation and predictions based off no actual certified information about this release.

But good to see we've found someone who is sure! How did you manage to get your hands on such information if you don't mind me asking?

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I think it's probably pretty safe to buy the new 'dex.

I think the Space Marine codex is the safest codex to buy in any edition. It's the flagship property, it will never be messed with to any extreme.

They are also a 'good' codex. It isn't quite as powerful as Tau Empire or Eldar, but it is better than most of the rest of the codices (in the same territory with New IG/AM, Daemons, Necrons). You can expect the army to be 'good' for quite a few editions, so IMO the power level shouldn't be messed with to the extreme.
