Subject: Cadian Conscripts "Whitestripes" Question

I am planning to add conscripts to my guard army and I had a question before I get to the models.
From what I've read, Whitestripes can't wear any regimental or cadian markings on their shoulderpads. But what about the aquilas on the helmet or lasgun? Is it stated anywhere in the fluff that they can still wear them?
Otherwise, I'll remove the aquilas. I'm not a fluff bunny, but I like my army to be somewhat consistent with the fluff.
Thanks!

IIRC it's just a standard cadian uniform with white shoulders and a white stripe on the helmet.

Whitestripe is the marking, the name is actually Whiteshields.
The studio army's Whiteshield unit still has the aquilas and imperiali on their armour, presumably hacking the Emperor's iconography off standard issue wargear would be frowned upon..

The aquila is there to remind them of who and what they're fighting for.

I meant to type "Whiteshields", it looks like I had a brain fart while typing
So the consensus is 'yes' to aquilas?

The general reasoning for that is less that it would be "frowned upon" and more that the amount of work for the Studio Army to have a unit of Whiteshields that would be fluffy would be quite a bit.

Yes if you don't want to put any work into it, no if you do.
Basically the Whiteshields are not "conscripts" in the general terminology. They aren't being forced to be there, but rather they are kids who are serving in the Whiteshield Platoons until they "earn" their Aquila and become a full Guardsman.

No no no, the aquila isn't what they earn, it's their regimental markings, i.e. the Cadian Gate and a regiment number.
In the British Army, you don't get your beret until you finish phase 1, but you'll damn well have the flag on your arm.

Hey Chootum I just thought I'd throw some cheap plastic your way. When you buy your guard unit, try to get the pack of 5 - they're easier to put together, and 10 of them only costs me 28AUD as opposed to 48AUD for the 10 man guard squad. You'll probably have to mail-order, but they're much cheaper and much easier to put together. http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Imperial-Guard-Cadians-5-models They're 10 USD - 20 for 10, so you save 9 dollars if you're buying through GW.

Fancy, here in Canada you do get it during basic training, but you don't get a proper rank flap or beret pin till you're done with your training, but once again, you better have that flag.

Ditto Australia. You don't get a rank slide until you finish Basic, and you don't get a beret (at least in Infantry) until you finish your Infantry School training, but you have the flag from the get go. Not that it's too relevant, but hey.

Nope. When you "become" a full Guardsman it is referred to as "Taking the eagle".
They have their regimental markings before that.

Well, the initial bit about "Taking the eagle" is from one of the Gaunt's Ghosts books. I believe it was "Armour of Contempt" from the "Lost" arc.
The part about Whiteshields actually having unit insignias etc before their full induction is "Cadian Blood"...since the Whiteshields there actually had their insignias.
Because really the idea that they wouldn't have their insignias because they're not "full Guardsmen" is kinda silly. They'd still need unit signifiers etc.

Well, going by the old adage of Black Library vs GW's own material, the latter seems to have always had it the other way around and is considered the more canon (since Black Library publications have no obligation to actually follow the fluff as laid out by GW material).

Gaunt's Ghosts doesn't feature any Cadians as far as I'm aware, so...

No, but it features a bit about how "taking the eagle" is referred to by veteran Guardsmen for when members of the support train(i.e. camp followers, children of Guardsmen on campaign, etc) pass RIP(Retraining, Indoctrination, Punishment) training details and are inducted into the ranks of the Imperial Guard.
Plus Cadians are in the first book, "First and Only" as a regiment supporting the advance on Menazoid Epsilon.
