Okay, so here's the deal. I'm starting up a new AM army, and I have some models already, and I am planning to buy some more. My main opponent is an UM veteran player who's army has been tempered by years of fighting a necron player. For some reason, his army typically consists of Rhinos, Razorbacks, Predators and Sternguard. Sometimes Terminators. Maybe a landspeeder. And he likes to ally with his brothers' Tau for AA.
With quite some money constraint on my side, and wanting to put together a mechanized list regardless of how bad a Lascannon-heavy army will mess me up, I've ended up with this list.

Knowing that if I don't pop his predators quickly, I'm going to die, and that I can't afford to get much particularly quickly, my list has resulted in some... oddities. a squadron of 2 Vanquishers with lascannons, and the use of Yarrick instead of a CCS has occured...
There may be some redemption to be had, however, with the chimeras with autocannons...



What I'm looking for is tips on how to play this kind of army, and modifications that don't involve me taking more than this many troops

Special weapons for the Veteran Squads for a start and I'd look at swapping the sponsons on the Executioner for Plasma Cannons

What sort of special weapons should I be looking for?
The plasma sponsons I can do, though. I'll probably end up taking off the extra armour, and the extra mastery level for a spare 40 points to play with, but I'll want to keep the psyker for twin-linking.
Or 30 points after up-gunning to plasma sponsons.

meltaguns or Plasmaguns is the normal choices. a mix of plasma vet squads and melta vet squads. but keep each squad as one type of special weapon so either 3 melta or 3 plasma.

Giving one squad 3 plasmaguns and another 3 meltaguns, and removing 1 ML and all extra armour, and adding plasmacannon sponsons brings me to a total of 1535 points.


Downgrading Yarrick to a normal Lord Commissar saves me 80 points, with which I can put some upgrades back on, but then I cannot give any orders, which may cost me...

you have a two in six chance of your lord commissar getting orders. the guard warlord table is rather nice.
