In a 1500pt game against Orks (with punisher cannons) to be a little...punch me in my beardy face??
I normally play against necrons, Tau, eldar and daemons and my moral compass may be twisted by confronting screamerstar, croissant spam and riptides...help. I like my models and like the idea of gunships with twin punisher cannons but I also like having friends. So I appeal to the internet for social advice.

I would brought some aditional models and see what happens. It could be a good time to test some low-efficient units to try something new.
Play the first game with one Vulture, and if you think you need extra power, take away weak units and add more Vultures. If your games last 5 or more turns without being a one-sided massacre, with tactical decisions and/or the dice being the reason of who wins, you did it right. If one player destroys most his opponent´s army before turn 5, and the victory is achieved without actually having to risk something (like in "I put the Vulture here, I destroy one unit, you cannot do anything in your turn, I put the Vulture here, I destroy one unit" and so on), the game would be quite boring for at least one player.
In that case, I recommend calling it a draw, and then start the game anew after doing some adjustments in the lists.

You could be taking 9x wyverns instead so don't feel too bad.

Do you always field the same army? If so, no guilt. You are going to have some good, some bad matchups, but you can never be accused or tailoring.
Do you know before hand that you were facing green tide and tailored against it? Did you opponent not get a chance to tailor against you in return? Then you might be That Guy.

Yeah. I think I'm becoming 'that guy' I caught it from a eldar-tau player from prolonged contact. I feel reading my codex imperialis should cure me. Do generally field a artillery army so it is a change...oh god I think someone needs to create a treatment programme for gamers who use the words 'competitive' and 'balance'. this is a cry for help.
Nah joking aside I never field fliers so should be okay...

I haven't used the wyvern (I play dkok assault brigade) yet but my friend always moans at my thudds so can only imagine the tears brought by twin linked, reroll to wound shenanigans.
I played a Ork horde in a city fight and did a similar thing with carcass rounds (ignore cover) on heavy mortars. Hahah frakk the greenskin serves him right for not playing taudar or daemons (they dominate my gaming circle!)

I think it very much depends on your opponents. I played my first game of 40K in years a while back. Fielded a cobbled-together Eldar list using whatever models I had lying around with the old Codex (the latest Eldar Codex wasn't out at this time).
My opponent knew all this and he was the one who convinced me to play the game as an effort to get back into WH40K.
Knowing all this, he fielded his Imperial Guard army with foritiifcations, lots of heavy weapons, a couple of tanks and two Vultures. At this time I had absolutely no weapons capable of AA (which he knew) and predictably I got absolutely slaughtered.
And then he wondered why I didn't play 40K after that.....

I would recommend you be very careful with vultures and orks. If your opponent wants to play a tough game where they have to overcome a hurdle then it could be great. However the game will be heavily tilted in your favor.
Vultures are literally good against the entire codex. Funnily enough the vultures are actually worse at killing boyz with a KFF than killing ork vehicles.

You could always try to proxy some of the alternate weapon options. Or if it seems like they are invulnerable, just use them in hover mode as a handicap.

I should of mentioned..i will have them in hover mode the entire game. So actually probably easy for him to kill then punisher?? (or am I being silly). The weapons will be more potent..
It's a week or two away but will post a link to a battle report with pics. If not then the Ork has beat me to death with a deathrolla battlewagon
Thanks!

My personal rule is "if I have to think about it, it probably is" when it comes to potential TFG moves. Now dont get me wrong, you actually thought about it so that shows you still arnt TFG. . . .yet
Its when you stop thinking about it and bring those facroll list regardless of the "setting" that you enter TFG territory...

Let him run Flakkadakka guns and proxy some Dakkajets. It's not the perfect counter but it's serviceable.
Then take a moment and wonder why Space Apaches are so good at dog fighting with proper fighter jets.
