Hello everyone! Had a LoS question. Friend had a SM dread. I immobilized it. For the rest of the game he treated it's firing LoS as an almost 180 degree cone from his front. The dread had a flamer and MM. I'm curious as to how this works exactly. What angle can it shoot? I didn't argue as I didn't have a direct answer, but I feel like an immobilized dread can basically only shoot the way it's facing. Sure, some degree of a cone maybe but not directly from his side ya know?

I'd personally think it's either a straight direction from the gun (think of a side sponson that couldn't swivel and faced forward) or his LoS is basically his body width. Since being immobilized it can't pivot

One other similar thing to add. He deep strikes a speeder. It ended up scattering and he shot at something at a 45 degree angle. Again I think he can only shoot straight forward (it was a MM on the top in front of the crew). Similar to the immobilized dread, vehicles via DS pick a direction and can't adjust their position once they've landed. Neither move or pivot. Any thoughts? Rules?

Anyway, as always any help is appreciated and any page references are great too. Thx in advance.

The rules for vehicle firing arcs are found on page 72 of the rulebook.

Walkers can pivot, so they can shoot around. Immobilized walkers though cannot pivot.

And walker rules are pg 84. Why keep talking about vehicles?

Perhaps because a Walker IS a Vehicle.

Because Walkers use 45 degree vehicle firing arcs.

Which is described on page 84, under rules for Walkers. Page 72 does not apply here.

Yes, but all the useful diagrams and rules explaining what a firing arc is and how you determine them are on page 72, which are not readily apparent from reading the Walker rules exclusively.

An akin situation came up in a friend's game. His Furioso Dreadnought was immobilized, and he wanted to cast Blood Lance on a path that his model couldn't see (the head of the dread), but it is a psychic power... Would he be able to cast it at any direction, even after immobilized??

We are only given instruction on how to handle Line of Sight for a vehicle's weapons which is to " trace line of sight from each weapons' mounting and along its barrel"

So Strict RAW vehicles can not use PSA's as they do not have eyes, and Blood lance does not have a mounting or barrel to draw Line of Sight along.

So figure it out with your group.

Thx for the page reference. I'll look it over.

Something else to ask. Very few things are directly referred to as mounted types of weapons. How can you determine this?

What IS a pintel-mounted weapon? Or hull-mounted? (This I assume is literal?)

If it does not say in the vehicle entry, you will have to look at the model to try and determine the mounting.

Take a look on the Leman Russ, for example. The weapon in the turret is turret-mounted, that´s no problem. The weapon the Leman Russ have inte the front is the hull-mounted weapon. The weapons the Leman Russ can have on the side is not hull-mounted but sponson-mounted. So a weapon that is mounted directly on the hull is hull-mounted and have a 45 degree firing arc.
On an immobilized walker, their weapons have a 45 degree arc.
