That good doesn't offset the bad though.

A better solution would be better rulebooks giving FoCs for such things, then it's win win. Game remains balanced and people can run fluffy lists.

The simple fact is, you're completely dependent upon the people you play with to make 40k enjoyable. If those people are interested in role playing/force the narrative, etc., you can still have fun with it. If those people are randoms, or even remotely min/max types, then you simply won't have that much fun playing 40k.

I can attest to that. Back in 5th , I had regular games with my CSM vs my best friend's Cadian 8th IG (With Yarrick backing them up, because Yarrick is fun). I was invading Cadia, he was defending it, and we laughed our way through each game, as we ran ourselves into wacky hijinks.
Such as the time a lone guardsman charged a small unit of CSM and won out, and the ongoing duel between my DP and Yarrick, lasting all game every game.

But, he has sinced moved away, and my games have never been the same since :C

The only good I see from Unbound armies is that you can field fluffy armies now. For example, I could make a proper Night Lords Warband with numerous Raptors and Warp Talons, or make a full Emperor's Children Warband with most troops being Noise Marines.

I would be taking my Fluffy warband with:

Typhus (Playing as the infamous corruptor, Lord Pyros)
A boatload of zombies
3 squadroned Leman Russ Variants (requisitioned from my traitor planet)
1 Heldrake (I need *some* competitiveness. And a tail...)

Agreeing. Actually doing more ref-ing than playing at this time - it's so frustrating to see the very same lists brought over and over...and over.

Casual 40k can work, but needs communication before the game and it requires you finding a suitable group to play in. PUGs are terrible as you have to rely on rules and they are utterly terrible right now...and unfortunately, 7th seemingly isn't going to fix this, instead, it's going to be even worse.

We can't really know how 7th will be until we see it. Then we can all despair.

Hardly all of it. Some stuff about no FoC, a couple of other things. Just enough to get the following range of reactions from Dakkadakka:

-Rage
-Terror
-Fatalism
-Crying
-"Quitting"
-Anger
-Excitement
-Hatred
-Despair
