Hey everyone. I've started getting really into fantasy with a buddy of mine, and I'd like to dive into the fluff too. I've read a lot of the 40k Black Library stuff, but never ventured into Fantasy. Having fluff behind my armies means a lot t me and I like to read up on the fluff of every game I play. So, any recommendations for which books to start with? I've heard the Gotrek and Felix novels are great, but I'd rather start out with either standalone books or a shorter series.

Thanks!

Gotrek and Felix are excellent, so is the Nagash series.

The great betrayal is really good, it's set some time before current events so sets up the issue between elves and dwarves whilst also including skaven, goblins, dark elves

The sequel is even better, and the third is due out in my few months.

That shoild give you some idea what you want to read about next.

Alternatively read the novellas and see which races interest you, the gw site has a few decent omnibuses at the moment

The Sundering omnibus is fantastic, it was the first fantasy novel I ever read

I have really enjoyed all of the Time of Legend novels - lots of great characters and epic stories.

Gotrek and Felix and their spin off Ulrika the Vampire novels are good.

Dracenfels is pretty awesome.

It's really hard to say.
Do you like goblins? Go for "Skarsnik".
Do you want to know more, how magic works? "Van Horstmann" is your choice.
Wood Elves? Read "Orion" trilogy.
Chaos? "Archaon" and "Sigvald".
Empire? Josh Reynolds with Erkhart Dubnitz and Knights of Myrmidia is THE master here.

Gortex and felix sucks sorry guys but it does. Here is the plot they walk somewhere in trouble, they fight something no one else can fight and win thenmove on to next book. How this made like 6 books is beyond me lol.

Try Nagash or Sigmar books aren't to bad but kinda....predictable. The Tranquel series is awesome tho. Skaven plus tons of awesomness . Except with the one with gotex and felix in it.

SPOILER!!!

Clan skyre sends a steam tank and 2 rat ogres at the slayer and he shoots magic lightning bolts out his arse and kills everything he sees.

Earlier Gotrek and Felix. The literally cover almost every bit of the warhammer world. Although I don't remember them ever slay any ogre kingdom ogres... If someone knows I would like to hear about that novel. I love skaven so I also enjoyed the spin of Thanquol novels.

I agree the books get a bit repetitive. I would highly recommend the first 3-6 then the rest become increasingly less apealing for all but the most die hard fans.

Fun fact-the magic from Gotrek and felix have allowed them to become essentially immortal. That, I admit, is a bit cheesey, but at least they give some justification for the fluff armor you see, most fluff won't give us a good explanation why characters live hundreds or thousands of years.
