So iv started with the title to try and best describe what this topics about iv recently bought a cheap air brush and compressor off eBay but I'm having some trouble with it, it's got .2mm needle but I'm really struggling to get anything but a large spray area from it meaning everything I try has a lot of over spray and it hard for me to do anything small like plasma glow on a plasma pistol do you guys think it could be due to the fact that I'm using a cheap brush rather than something a little better ?

Do you think I should go for a better brush such at the iwata neo and see if I get better results ? I know this is still a very cheap brush compared to most ?

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

The AS186 is a powerful compressor at 1/6 horsepower this unit delivers more Air Volume (CFM) and Air Pressure (PSI) than any airbrush demands. Very portable light-weight and compact with a built in carrying handle for Easy Handling and Storage. True diaphragm pressure regulator with gauge and water trap Filter that provides precise adjustment of airflow and ensures clean, dry air. Preset for automatic turn off when air tank reaches 57 PSI. I owned the Iwata neo, and I gotta say it's a decent brush, but the small needle in it causes clogging issues very frequently.

I found myself stripping it apart and cleaning may more than I should have.

However having said that, you can replace the needle and nozzle to a larger size and it will work great for the price.

Candle man i've got both (a neo and a cheapo from ebay) and i don't think you will notice a significant difference in the width of the spray pattern with a Neo especially if you've already got a 0.2mm nozzle. Have a look at some tutorials online and have a bit of a practice with the airbrush you've got. Have you been removing the nozzle guard/ cap as you will need to get in pretty close for doing something small like a plasma pistol?

Yeah for the plasma pistol and some assault marine jump packs I did I removed the guard so I could see where the needle was and where the paint was more likely to come from it just sea to have a large amount of over spray could this be from in experience with the brush ?

What sort of pressure were you using? When you are that close to the model you may need to experiment a bit with pressure settings and paint consistency to get a better result. But generally you want less pressure so that the paint doesn't come flying out because of how close you are to the model.
