You have no HQ choice? I'm going to be playing an apocalypse game where I plan on exclusively bringing Gargantuan Creatures/Super Heavies. As far as I know, the rules say that you choose a warlord who is your HQ choice with the highest leadership value. Barring having an HQ selection, do you just pick the character with the highest leadership?
For example, I'll have An'ggrath and a Hierophant with a venomthrope sitting inside of it at 2k. Sure I'll be 50ish points short but it's apocalypse - who cares? The point is that I won't have an HQ selection. What do you guys think happens in this scenario? Do I get to choose between the Hierophant and An'ggrath?
I suppose it would be argued that the warlord has to come from my "army" and not my "allies", but with 3 models this becomes very semantic.

It's apocalypse, who cares?
But seriously,if you have no HQ then you should get no Warlord traits. It's apocalypse, you don't even need a HQ because you throw force org outta the window.

Each player nominates a model to be their Warlord following the normal rules. Since you do not have an HQ character, you do not have any models eligible to be the Warlord, and as such you would not have one.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Does Apocalypse have a rule allowing you to not have a Warlord?
Because the normal rules require it. So unless there is a rule changing that, the army would be illegal.

The rules seem to imply that it is possible to not have a Warlord.
Before a game of Apocalypse begins, each player nominates one model to be his Warlord, just like in a game of Warhammer 40,000. As a result, there may be several Warlords on each side...
Of course to be fair, the Apocalypse rules straight up say to bring everything you have (and they do mean everything) so there is no reason why you should not have at least 1 HQ model.

The may there is not what you think it is.
It is granting permission for several warlords.

That gives you permission to have more than one. It doesn't address the requirement to have at least one.

There may be several (due to several players). There's no exemption from the requirement of a Warlord - just like in a game of Warhammer 40,000.

The closest thing I can find in my book is on page 18:
Apocalypse Book wrote:Armies may include any number of units from any codex, plus any number of fortifications and Apocalypse Formations (pg 58). No Force Organization chart restrictions apply to the army - just bring along all of the models you can!
Of course, this still runs into the issue that the book says, just a few pages later, that before the battle each player chooses one Warlord to lead their force. So going strictly by the rules, I couldn't tell you either way.
But stepping away from RAW for a moment, I'd say ask the people who are going to be playing the game. Like Alex said, it's Apocalypse, who cares? The whole expansion is about bringing your craziest stuff to the table and seeing what happens when you let it loose, don't get too hung up in how rules are worded. If worst comes to worst, d6 it - 4+, you choose one of your models to be Warlord in the absence of an HQ.

So the way I see it is that you must take 1 HQ character, or else you're breaking RAW.
HIWPI, however, is that you simply don't get a warlord if you can't have one.
