Hey fellas.

I had a question about the Dark Angels successor chapters. A friend of mine wants me to paint his Dark Angels army as the Guardians of the Covenant chapter and I was wondering a couple of things.

  • Do the guardians follow the same organisation as the Dark Angels having both a Deathwing Company and a Ravenwing Company?
  • If they do, are these two companies basically on loan from the parent chapter?
  • Also, do these companies follow the heraldry of the original Deathwing or Ravenwing?

Yes.
No.
Not sure.

Most Dark Angel successors copy the organisation of their parent chapter but there is some wiggle room if you wanted them to change it up slightly. Not 100% sure about heraldry, it wouldn't make sense for them to be the same colour as the Deathwing but it is possible they imitated them as a lot of DA successors are still very close to their parent chapter.

It's only e dark angels themselves that have a distinct heraldry for their deathwing and ravenwing, all the successors' just go with the same colour as the rest of the chapter. Same with the names of the companies, only the dark angels have special names for the first and the second.

  • Some Chapters use the same organisation, some don't. Sometimes they just call it differently but it is a "Deathwing" and a "Ravenwing"...

  • No.

  • Heraldic colors depend on contrast. If the original colors don't fit well with the Chapters colors they may adapt them IMHO.

  • Guardians of the Covenant seem to be the "Monk" like choice of successor, lots of text across everything..scrolls..etc.

That photo is why I asked this question. So I figure to ask the fluff masters.
Thank you all for the responses
