Want to see how many play this awesome game. Did you play CoH 1 and if so do you like 1 or 2 more? Do you play the Germans or Russians mainly and are you looking forward to Americans and the other German. What would you like to see next?

I've been playing CoH since it first came out. Loved the first one and have been playing the second a lot sense I work nights now. I miss the British from CoH1 but have hopes they will be added soon. Overall I enjoy CoH2 the most since it has new graphics new maps and new units that CoH1 did not have. The campaign is fairly short but helps you get used to the game and has a lot of fun missons to enjoy. I play Germans the most and have been enjoying the new commander that gives me Pumas. I play the Russians sometimes and love using the KV-2, although I have been using the new commander because I love Shermans. Speaking of Shermans, I am looking forward to the Americans, soon to be released in June, and am looking forward to the new maps and campaign that will surely follow them. The only things I would like to see, at the moment, are some new maps and British. Although the Steam workshop has many new maps that are for the most part balanced and enjoyable.

I like CoH2, just not as much as the first one. I find the visual effect and voice acting to just not be as epic. The example I always give is the panther, in CoH1 the unit voice was awesome, in CoH2 the guys sounds bored, shells and artillery just don't seem to have the same weight either. Its still a good game, but like comparing Dragon Age 2 to Dragon Age: origins, its just got such a hard act to follow.

Also you're lucky there aren't many russians on Dakka, because russians have... views on CoH2.

I can definitely see the Russian views and arguements towards the game. It does hold a bias American outlook of the war and in particularly the Russian front. The campaign in particular has a lot of negitive happenings that, although may have happened, did not happen in the scale and as frequent as the game dipicts. I can wholeheartedly understand how upset the Russian people and historians feel about touchy subjects that get over exaggerated.

However the game does not hit me so hard because its a game and I am not Russian. I can appreiciate it as a game and use it to pass time.

That being said, yeah some of the voice acting sounds kinda bored now that I think about it.

Its mostly the germans, soviets are good, for instance we know not to feth with a T-34, and the scout car driver LOVES his job.

Nothing beat clicking on a CoH1 Panther and hearing "Pride of the Fatherland..."

Still love CoH2 though, and I am so pumped for Western Front.

Russians appear to be in denial about the countless war crimes that were commited by the red army.

I had a lot of fun with CoH 1 but I was put off by the fact that there are only Russians and Germans in the game. Call me biased but there is nothing I hate more than those two.

Nah, they just say the Germans did it and no one asks any questions. Who is gonna stand up in a room and say the Germans didn't kill tens of thousands of civilians

Well the Germans seem to have a "sorry but we were drunk" attitude about it.

I think a look at the Pacific theater might be interesting...Get some Japanese Imperial Army going on.
When COH came out it was such an amazingly revolutionary treatment of rts. I think that even with more interesting mechanics like snow etc, COH2 just can't compete with the pure "streaks ahead" nature of COH when it first launched.

I've only played the beta and there were just so many things that put me off about the game.

1) Way, way, way too many units. If I wanted a mass battle game, I'd be playing Supreme Commander. The Russians especially had far too more units running about that I could happily look after and make sure they didn't die.

2) On the back of (1), units died a lot easier. I liked the idea of trying to keep at least 1 squad member alive.

3) The whole winter / fire mechanic wasn't awesome. It was irritating. I want to fight a war, not feel like I was herding cats.

4) The game seemed to move a lot faster than COH1.

The thing is, COH1 was one of my favourite games. I couldn't put up with COH2 for more than a handful of games at a weekend.

My issue with CoH2 is that I already owned the game. It's name is CoH1. They didn't even make much of a graphics improvement, the game play was mostly the same barring annoying additions like the snow storm. Given that I own the exact same game minus the annoying mechanics, I say no need to buy the sequel.

COH2 is more like Coh1.5 in my eyes, nothing much has really changed except the fact that COH2 Is one big freaking DLC fest.

Also i can see why so many Russians have issues with the game, in the first game we did not witness any of the Nazi war crimes at all ,so why they decided to highlight and focus on the soviet war crimes in the second game makes little or no sense.

The game feels like it missing alot in my opinion and i'm not even sure if the western front expansion will correct that, and shuld we some where in the future see an Asian front expansion then the war crimes of Japan and it's Unit 731 to mention one should be in the game.

The German Campaign in Opposing fronts was, in my opinion, the best "bad guy" campaign I've ever played, especially when the subject matter is tricky. I get sick of the same portrayal of the germans and cartoonishly evil, and instead they were shown as people just trying to defend their country. It was refreshing.

At the same time I think that CoH2 went a little too far the other way, the Soviet Campaign felt like a typical "bad guys" campaign, where the main character fights against both the enmy and the unjust system he is fighting for. Did I mind it as much as the russians? No, stalin was a dick, the NKVD were dicks, and honestly Russia is the nation state equivalent of a fat American sitting in a french cafe shouting "WE SAVED UR ASSES IN WW2!" but I think the tone of the campaign might have suited a German campaign better. Maybe bring back the main characters form the Marker Garden campaign, I actually kinda liked them.

I actually enjoy CoH2 more than the first game simply because the AI is leagues better in my experience. Also many of the levels in the first game all resorted to the same "just build more Shermans" A lot of the campaigns levels in 2 had some unqiue challenge that the first game didnt.

I did feel that the campaign's story was much better in the first game.

I usually play Russian but I can not wait for the Americans to come out. Russia vs America is a dream of mine.

I never understand this complaint. I would be PISSED if they changed the game that it causes me to say "This isnt CoHs" If I want a sequel its because I enjoyed the first game, dont feth with the formula that made it great. One of the best RTS games I ever played was Red Alert and there is physically no difference between that game and the Command and Conquer. Hell some of the units were the same units (much less most of the forces were just old units and buildings that have a new skin)

Because if you're just going to release a game again and charge me for it I don't see my incentive to buy. Improvements to formula can be made without radically altering it. I'm not talking DoW to DoW2 I'm talking Halo to Halo 2. The second game was a clear improvement over the first with new features and mechanics but the same basic formula and flavor. That's what sequels are supposed to be. Not a rerelease of the game I already own.

Actually I consider Halo 2 to be far inferior in every category to Halo 1. Thats not the point you were making though. I think I KIND of get what you are saying but for me, when i want a sequel, I want a continuation of what I love with a few treaks to make it better. For me CoH 2 did what I wanted.

So I think western forces may have saved CoH2 from being remembered as an average game at best. The new factions very unique ways of teching up make for some fun gameplay
I especially like the new German faction, buildable king tigers ftw!

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of Brits in the Western Forces pack. I want my Cromwells, Fireflies, and 25pdrs back - and Sextons instead of Priests; maybe even Challengers.

I was sorely dissapointed by CoH2.

My main complaint is that the factions were basically copied from CoH, so it just didn't feel any different. Oppossing Fronts did impressive things by making genuinely different factions, and I had hoped that trend would continue to the Ostheer and Soviet Army.

Instead, the Soviets are the Americans from CoH1 almost verbatim; their teching system and units all fill the same niches. They have some more infantry diversity, but they mostly represents doctrine-only units from CoH1 which are buildable; Guards are basically Rangers, Penal Infantry are Paratroopers, T70 is the Greyhound, etc, etc. The Ostheer is also just the Wehrmacht from CoH1, sans Volksgrenadiers.

This made the game easier to pick up; I played the hell out of CoH1 with my friends, but none of them are in to CoH2, and as I was awful with the US, and am just as bad with the Soviets, I'm basically playing the same game again with the Ostheer.

I'm willing to give the new expansion a chance, once it's on sale, as I still like the core concept of CoH, especially bigger games, but there wasn't enough new in base CoH2 to get my attention. I got it for free, and still ended up uninstalling it within a few weeks. It's got all the same flaws as CoH, and offers little new. And yes, the singleplayer was incredibly offensive, and I'm not even Russian. I can't abide the shameless deriding of the USSR during the 2nd World War; Stalin was a dick, the NKVD were dicks and Commissars were about 50/50 dick/decent, but all those Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Uzbecks, Siberians and so on fought and died to end the Nazis, and contributed far more to the end of the 3rd Reich than almost the entirety of the Allies combined; there's a time and a place to discuss the war crimes of all parties involved, but "Company of Heroes" isn't it.

Honestly, I think the Pacific might have been a better direction for Relic to take, as it would have forced them to be more creative. They couldn't just re-use the same mechanics over again effectively unchanged. They already did true line of sight, one of the better things in CoH2, how hard would it be to add ambush mechanics, booby-traps, tunnels, melee (banzai charges aside, very close engagements ranges in the pacific made CQC a very real thing) and so on. It'd be harder to get right, the factions would be more asymmetrical, but there's plenty of materiel to work with. Heck, there's even plenty of expansion material; core game as USMC, IJA, expansion adds SNLF (Japanese Marines) and Commonwealth, DLC Nationalist China?

There's an idea, let China show up in a WW2 game, considering, you know, the tied down the overwhelming majority of the Japanese military. Without Chiang and Mao, the IJA would have rolled into India without much of a fuss, or could have hit the Soviets from the east alongside Barbarossa.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

To the poster above me, I whole heartedly agree with you, the whole game was a massive vaste of opportunity and a potential staging ground for a great new series of games.
But in the end they ended up as you pointed out with noting but a massive and utterly failiure.

I agree with most of the above posters. The game to me is fun but after a session or two it tends to start feeling worn. The WA expansion added alot of what i wanted to see but without the brits / japan / USMC it still feels lacking.

I do agree that Russia and Germans were just copy and pasted from COH1 to COH2. The OKW is just a repeat of the brits from COH1 too! Still i found it to be a fun game.

None of my steam friends sans two or three will play it with me though. They all prefer COH1

It wasn't that it was a BAD game. It just suffered from following the first CoH. There was going to be zero way they would top that.

I still sit down and play CoH for hours at a time. I haven't played CoH 2 since about a month after it came out.
