So I read somewhere on an earlier thread about taking an unbound army of lone wolves. I read about them and how if they survive the enemy gets a victory point, but if they die the controlling player has the victory point. If I where to use an army of them in an unbound list, can the enemy choose not to fight back in close combat? Can they issue challenges? Obviously the enemy player wont shoot them, but its in combat were im not sure if the enemy can actually avoid killing them? Obviously it works better against some armies. Just wondering thats all. Ahhhh I just realized being tabled automatically means the other player wins. So unless there is a way around it then yea this wont work.

That's really not what the Lone Wolf rule says.
You don't get a point if they die.

Don't dismiss the idea out of hand.
You might not get a point for them dying but if you can get them into close combat I'm sure you can get a few casualties and points of your own.
I mean, if your opponent doesn't ask about the rules on Lone Wolves until the end of the game when they try to count those kills at points, it's not really your fault that they don't get points for it...

Thats true.
They probably do better when combined with other units, but they gain nothing by killing them, plus there is nothing worse than having to kill heaps of single model units everywhere. Could work if you used it with other units. Since its unbound there isnt really a limit on what it can be used with. But Having all lone wolves probably wont work. Well not without huge amounts of luck .

Maybe give them all Fenrisian Wolves for extra wounds? Since they're technically wargear for each Lone Wolf they wouldn't concede a point for getting killed either.

That may work, but whats their killing capacity like? Because its all well and good not giving any points but things like objectives and actually staying on the table need to be considered. With the new cards there is potential for extra Victory points too.
I dont play them, I have a friend who has played them.

Depends how you outfit them. I'm at work so I can't check my codex but you can pretty much do everything from the equivalent of a slightly better than normal Grey Hunter, if you go for the standard nothing added Lone Wolf, all the way up to a fully outfitted TDA Wolf Guard. Lone Wolves have better Initiative and attacks/wounds or something but if you outfit them right they're a pretty decent unit.
Like I said and you said, give them Fenrisian Wolves as wound sponges and force your opponent to invest an entire unit's firepower on one target. I know I'd be a pretty mad Guard player if my entire unit had to pour all their shots into one unit. Especially if that unit was TDA with a storm shield and two fenrisian wolves and somehow survived lol.

No worries, us NZ'ers gotta stick together lol.
The good thing about Lone Wolves is that in reality they're not too expensive so if you field an entire army you can have a line of squishy ones to protect your TDA units or vice versa, not to mention if I recall correctly and I think I do. They can all take Rhinos, Razorbacks and Drop Pods as dedicated transports, Fenrisian Wolves counting as war gear can embark on them as well but they take up two spots and this way you can zoom them up field and use the vehicles as extra cover/fire support in the case of Razorbacks.

I really think the Onus is on the Space Wolves player to point this out. I'd be seriously pissed if somebody pulled that stunt on me.

An all lone wolf army would auto lose v cron air and some Eldar lists. Just move around and avoid all units, don't shoot anything you don't have to shoot, and collect 1vp per surviving lone wolf at the end of the game. An air cav list with 3ig valks and 3 inq valks could also pull the same trick.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I wasn't actually saying to do it, you'd have to be a real TFG to not mention it.
EDIT: I also realize and I'm sure Swastakowey does as well that this army would be the farthest thing from competitive but for a fun army it would be pretty interesting provided you played it against a friend and they didn't use all out fliers.
