Could close combat armies now be viable with the new rules? Can I finally use a pure Khorne list?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Khorne has always been my favourite chaos God. I have had limited success with it in 6th ed. The issue is I have to try and win combat in their phase not mine. Otherwise I stand there and spend a turn getting shot at.

It also means I've lost the art of building a combat army that doesn't involve a shed load of bezerkers and two land raiders. Because if you make anything too efficient in combat then they will get shot to pieces. So I've come up with this for the new rules as I believe you will not only be able to consolidate into another combat, but in challenges your attacks can hit the squad if you've killed the character.

Here it is
+++ Khorne (1500pts) +++
+++ 1500pt Chaos Daemons: Codex (2013) v13, Chaos Space Marines: Codex (2012) v48 Roster (Allied Detachment, Primary Detachment)) +++

Selections:

Chaos Daemons: Codex (2013) v13 (Allied Detachment) Selections:

+ HQ + (300pts)

* Bloodthirster (300pts)
2 Greater Rewards, 2 Lesser Rewards

+ Troops + (100pts)

* Bloodletters of Khorne (100pts)
10x Bloodletters

Chaos Space Marines: Codex (2012) v48 (Primary Detachment) Selections:

+ HQ + (345pts)

* Chaos Lord (185pts)
Juggernaut of Khorne, Mark of Khorne, Sigil of corruption
* Power Armour
Axe of Blind Fury, Plasma Pistol

* Kharn the Betrayer (160pts)

+ Troops + (255pts)

* Chaos Cultists (50pts)
10x Squad models

* Khorne Berzerkers (Troops) (205pts)
3x Chain Axe, 8x Khorne Berzerker
* Berzerker Champion
Bolt Pistol, Lightning Claw

+ Fast Attack + (140pts)

* Chaos Bikers (140pts)
4x Chaos Biker, Mark of Khorne, 2x Meltagun
* Chaos Biker Champion
Bolt Pistol, CCW

+ Heavy Support + (360pts)

* Chaos Land Raider (235pts)
Dirge caster

* Maulerfiend (125pts)

Unlikely that it could be effective in a competitive environent. Bit amongst your mate's such armies will probably become more plausible and could potentially win matches instead of dying horribly. I would probably take nurgle units scattered with khorne in order to give it greater versatility while keeping its good cc focus.

Nurlge bikers with melta's probably and maybe a tank or something for a little bit of long range punch.

Chaos land raiders aren't my first choice for chaos vehicles change them out for preds and if you need troop transports take some metal bawkses

I'd also consider stripping out kharn and take a warpsmith instead with a bubblewrap of moar cultists.

Thanks for your reply, but so much wrong with what you've said....

Kharn is an epic beatstick, and with the rumoured new rules will only be better.

Taking Nurgle kind of defeats the point in a Khorne army. Reading the title and the intro would have told you that Khorne is what I'm interested in.

Land raiders are the only thing worth taking with a combat army. Rhinos are utterly useless since they're not an assault vehicle. Means you're ALWAYS standing in front of a turn of shooting before you can charge.

I don't know much about Chaos...but isn't one of Khornes "things" warmachines? If so, why no Hellturkey? A little bit of airpower could give you the cover/distraction you need to get into contact.

I also think you could do well to add some Cultists, either to camp on backfield objectives, or to bullet catch, so the CMs can join the combat (you lose the bonus attack, but miss the overwatch as well...)

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

I don't know Rules for khorne, but close combat is epic now, it destroys all ranged armies, my tyrannids have me winning every battle i play, without close combat an army will die

I mainly play space marine, dark angels, chaos marines, I have played and beaten grey knights, actually I have lost before against thousandsons, their invunerable saves are so annoying

If you're about to face Daemons that nids could prove uber useful. It does depend on how the psychic phase works out. But shadow in that warp would help you out quite a bit. Rate of fire tends to upset daemons. They themselves can be equal to nids in combat. It depends on the kind of list he's taking. But if invulnerable saves upset you, then prepare to be very very upset.

It's only annoying because my army is designed to stop my enemy getting armour saves, although invunerable saves are annoying, the number of psychic powers from thousand sons was most annoying

Also I'm about to get necrons and not sure how to use them to destroy daemons, any ideas?
