Was just having a discussion with my GF about her HE army, and she wants to take Teclis. However, during our discussion the subject of mounting special characters came up. I seem to remember people mounting Teclis on a Star Dragon in the past, but the army list entry doesn't give any options for mounts.

Operating under "rules as written" I figure that unless its given as an option in the profile you can't mount a special character. My GF asked about mounting him using the prices given for a standard Lord-level Mage and I'm inclined to say it's ok since we only play against each other for fun, but having a definitive ruling would be nice in case I run into this scenario in fairly competitive play.

If you agree with your opponent prior to the battle then it would be okay.

However only characters who have the options for mounts may select one. Malekith can pick for example, so can Archaon.

Ah, so my thinking was correct. Thanks, I just wanted to make certain. I don't quite see Teclis being mounted on anything being game-breaking, so I'm inclined to let it slide.

Officially you can't give them any options not listed.

Officially GW cannot stop you from modifying their rules provided you & your opponent agree.

Trade rules: lower rep trades ships 1st. - I ship within 2 business days, if it will be longer I will contact you & explain. - I will NOT lie on customs forms, it's a felony, do not ask me to mark sales as "gifts". Free shipping applies to contiguous US states.

It's even encouraged. The players are the rules-nazis. GW themselves are quite happy to have us use their rulebook as a frame of reference.

Makes them feel better about not hiring people to proof read it.

How about the opposite can I take mounted special characters like Kroq-Gar and unmount them? What happens when his mount does but he is still alive?

That's usually harder as they tend to have some special named mount who is better than the base.

Start by subtracting the base points for that type of mount. Then modify from there.
