Shadowsun (command link, 2 x Shield drone)

XV104 Riptide (ion, EWO, fusion)

Kroot Carnivore Squad (20, hound, sniper - shadowsun can go here to outflank/infiltrate and secure objectives etc)
Kroot Carnivore Squad (10, hound, sniper)

Skyray Missile Defense Gunship (Blacksun, SMS)


Farsight Enclave Allied Detatchment

Commander (Target Lock, Talisman of Arthas Moloch, 2 x fusion)

XV104 Riptide (HBC, SMS, Earth Caste Pilot Array, EWO)

Crisis Suit Team (Bonding, 3 x 2 x fusion blaster) - (I can make a wee bomb with Shadowsun and the other commander and these suits dropping lots of fusion shots backfield and using shadow sun to make it harder to kill...)


Formation: Firebase Support Cadre

XV104 Riptide (ion, EWO, fusion)

3 x Broadside (HYMP, SMS, EWO)

Spoiler alert, Tau don't need rescued in 7th edition. So why are you acting like 7th completely destroyed them and you need to salvage your army?

On a serious note though, you only have three scoring units, and I'd advice getting a drone on that commander and adding warscaper drone. Very underrated Item which allows you to deep strike into and move through terrain without any problems.

Yes. I know I'm being a little girl about seventh, but I'd invested in models in order to put together a tournament, tier one taudar force and then after buying models but before actually getting to play with my miniatures, GW (I know, I know - quite rightly) nerfed my army. So I thought Sod It, I'll try a cool battle suit based force and use the cool XV9 model with the fusion cascades as my Shadowsun, but don't really know if the force is any good now.

Very useful feedback. I was torn between making another unit of Kroot or having the giant one to attach Shadowsun.

What would you suggest dropping to fit in the troops? I had considered toning down the FE commander a tonne to squeeze in a couple of lone bare suits to drop in and hide from the FE detachment for late game scoring...

with 3 riptides and farsight, there won't be a whole lot else then again id consider breaking the 20 man kroot unit into 2 10s no-ones gonna be shooting them for a while.

Pretty certain you can't use an allied Farsight detachment (Tau Faction) with a Tau Combined Arms detachment (Tau Faction).

You would need to take another troop choice in the Farsight list to make it a 2nd CA detachment.

This could be right, and fwiw some organisers have started limiting it to one one combined arms list per army. Not that most people follow the warhammer events teams rules, but thats what they've done.

I don't understand this. Are you saying I can't have farsight enclave allies for my tau empire army? Or are you suggesting that the problem is with my FSC formation? Just trying to understand...

If you take an allied detachment (1HQ + 1 Troop minimum) it MUST be a different faction than your primary detachment.

Tau codex is from the Tau Faction.
Farsight Enclave is from the Tau Faction.

You can take more than one Combined Arms Detachment which can be the same faction but the are 1HQ + 2 Troops minimum.

It might also be possible to just take both codex and enclave units in the same detachment as the rules seem to allow this.

Looking at your list you could fit everything in the same detachment.

Yes, you just need to create two detachments with the minimum requirements I.e. 1 hq and 2 troops. However even GWs own events are restricting to one combined arms and one ally.

Detachment 1
Shadowsun
2x kroot

Detachment 2
Commander
Earth caste tide
3 crisis
1 crisis

That could form the core of your army.

Okay. I'll need to have another go at my tau army. I'll post it in a new thread and I'll read the 7th edition rules a bit more first.

Briefly though, do ECPA allow you to reroll scatter on Iontides' blasts?

All units score, except swooping and zooming flyers. Even claimed fortifications.
