Previous thread was locked though the title was easy enough to understand.

So me and my friend were playing the other day and we are still a lil new but we know enough to have played a dozen or so games and we ran into a couple questionable things.

1. He assaulted a squad of 7 tactical marines with 26 cultists, lost none in overwatch, lost 7 in the Initiative 4 stage then killed 2 of mine in his stage. According to BRB because he lost more guys than I did, he lost the combat and has to make a morale check to see if he tries to run or not. He failed and then next I have the option of a sweeping advance which I win and proceed to kill the remaining 13 cultists. Was this a legit play here because we were a little shocked by how many people my small group killed?

2. Can you deploy an independent character with a squad during the deployment phase or do you have to wait for the initial movement phase on your turn?

3. We had a tree with Brainleaf Fronds and he had his Hellbrute sitting in it. Is the Hellbrute susceptible to the effects of the tree or no and if so, can it attack himself?
3a. Same question but different unit. He had a Chaos Lord solo in a tree, can he attack himself?

4. BRB says more than 25% of a vehicle has to be covered to be within cover. He had Hellbrute chillen with some Chosen behind the sandbag fortification covers we proxied. Does this place him under cover?

I think I'll have more questions soon

New Orleans

1. Marines are a lot tougher than cultists and will wreck them.

2. Yes you can.

3. Never played w/ fronds or seen a hellbrute in play.

4. Probably it is a judgement call in a lot of cases. I get a neutral 3rd party to make the call when it is in question.

Santuary 101

1. Yes. Sweeping advance can destroy the whole unit. In my opinion, it is what makes cc better than shooting, but much harder to get t in 6th Ed

2. Yes they can be deployed together. However, some rules of unit (eg scout USR) may require te character to also have it, if the unit is choosing to do a scout move.

I don't really know about hellbrutes so that's all I can help with.

for number 4, to me I look at it like this:

to be in cover, you need to be hard to see, if youre a 4in model standing behind a 3/4 in sandbag, you are easily spotted

Then again I'm also one of those who wonders why you have to kill the little minions in front of the giant Tyranid in front of you before you can shoot him, you know, even though the giant guys is massively larger and all you need to do is aim the gun at higher angle lol

ofc now point 4 is mute as under the new 7th ed you just have to be in cover not 25% covered

That's right. Remember that this also represents the unit being scattered, with individuals running for the hills. A regular fall back move represents a relatively ordered retreat; a sweeping advance represents an all-out rout.

I like to imagine that, while a large proportion of the unit might be killed in the rout, the rest just fled the battlefield.

Zodiark wrote:2. Can you deploy an independent character with a squad during the deployment phase or do you have to wait for the initial movement phase on your turn?

You sure can. Both 6th and 7th edition specifically state that you can, under "Joining and Leaving a Unit".

Brainleaf Fronds only affects non-vehicle units. Despite moving like Infantry, Walkers are still vehicles.

Yes, Brainleaves affect single-model units as there is no exception for this.

How long is a piece of string?

Only the players can judge that. You'll need to get down and look, and judge for yourself whether they are covered enough.

Not true. Some terrain specify that you just have to be "in" the terrain to get the cover save, in which case you don't need to be obscured at all. Others still have the 25% requirement as a general rule. First paragraph under "Terrain Types" in the Battlefield Terrain section.

With the changes to FoC in 7th, are we finally allowed to have more than 2 HQ's in our army?

Looked at it and not really understanding it (probably because im looking for an official statement of sorts)

The previous thread was locked because the title was vague. As is this one.

As explained in this thread (which I also linked to when I locked your previous thread) the thread title needs to contain at least a vague clue as to what the thread is about.
