I'm going with the Darius theme army, because I like synergy, and I think it looks neat.

Warcaster: Darius (5 warjack points)

Sword Knights (4)
Defender (9)
Ironclad(7)

Wrecking Crew Tier 1
(+ Pathfinder on first turn)

Plan is to hide Darius behind both warjacks. He'll buff them and repair them with his halfjacks while they advance. The sword knights will advance with them. I figure at this point level there will only be a couple of targets, so I'll just sort of brute-force my way throigh everything. Once myjacks start taking damage, I'll use the halfjacks and Darius to repair them a lot.

I'm considering bringing a Cyclone instead of a Defender, however. In eiher case, I'm going to get the box of ironclad/defender/cyclone and magnetize it if I can so I can make these descisions.

The eventual plan is to build up to tier 4 Wrecking crew by 30 or 35 points, which wil look something like this:

35 points:
Darius

2 10-man Sword Knights (12)
+ free officer and banner from Tier 2
+ officer and banner (2)
Hammersmith (7 (8 - 1 from Tier 3)
Defender/Cyclone (8 (9 - 1 from Tier 3))
Thunderhead (11 (12 - 1 from Tier 3)

I think at 15pts you could drop the Defender and Sword Knights and do one of two things

1. Replace with Centurion, Arlan and Squire.
2. Replace with Hammersmith, Jnr and Arlan or Squire.

Arlan, Squire, Jnr are all really useful with Darius as though Darius likes his Jacks, his 6 Focus is an issue and Arlan and Squire can help with this and Arcane Shield from Jnr and Fortify from Darius means you have two very hard to kill jacks and should be trying to get them all in at 35pts IMO

I'm not sure what a 'jnr' is.

I'm not worried about the low focus, because I can put 3 on every jack in control area for 3 with one of the spells. I'm also reluctant to drop the sowrd knights because a) I bought a 10-man unit of them, and b) I need 2 of them to get to the higher tiers of the Theme army.

Replacing the defender is certainly an option, however - I'm just worried about losing all of my ranged ability.

How so? It's incredibly appropriate. You do know what asphyxiation is right?

I think "Ash" would be much better and funnier name for that warcaster.

I am rather new to Cygnar as well and have been working on a Darius list.

I personally don't worry about shooting at 15 points as I am hoping to get my Heavies up there as fast as possible to beat some head in and take a beating back. But then get fixed and finish them off.

But I was looking at your list and thought of this for you.

The Journeyman can upkeep arcane shield on either your jacks or the unit of Sword knights to beef them up a bit. Then boost a shot when needed. Arlan can give the charger a focus for a single powerful attack. So Darius can use his focus for the Iron Clad or himself. Alternately you can drop Arlan and add the UA for the Sword Knights. If I was to start working towards a Tier list I think this might be a good start. I am not 100% happy with the charger. I would much rather have a hunter in there but just to many points to work it in. If you are worried about Darius you could swap the charger for a sentinel for both Shield Guard and Strafe. But I have found Strafe to be expensive on focus.

Anyways I hope that helps. Let me know how things work for you. I really like Darius as a Caster.

The problem is at 15pts you are paying 3 to run 2 jacks, which is not focus efficient for getting up the board butif you are going into combat especially with the Hammersmith it is worth while. At 15pts I don't think you need the Sword Knights or lose much in the way of a ranged game by taking out the Defender. Arlan, Squire and Jnr just add a lot to him. At higher points you will be adding the Sword Knights and you can use these for you ranged game buy marshaling such Jacks as a Defender, Avenger or Reliant as the UA Drive: Pronto increases the range threat of all of them. Or run them with Centurion as for an un chargeable wall.

To be fair all the above are allowing to run his Wrecking Crew Tier 1 list which is giving everything in his BattleGroup Pathfinder for the first turn of the game so why not go Tier.

That's true, I just don't want to get used to tier when I know I am not going to follow it. I like B13 to much.
