Hello everyone, with my Elysian Drop Troops nearing completion I have purchased enough models to build an 1000 point detatchment of Militarium Tempestus to go along with it bringing my total points of Imperial Guard to 3500. I am however having a dilemma as to how many points and how many armies I should have and wanted to hear your guys opinions, keep in mind that I am shooting for around 7000 points of 40K. Basically the options are the following:

-x2 Armies of 3500pts. each giving me multiple options on how to run my army, in this case with my Elysians, variations of an Air Cav army with Special Forces support. the second army would be 3500pts. of a Xenos army.

-x3 armies of 2500pts. each giving me a lot of variation in regards to what armies I can play with. In this case it would be 2500pts. of Elysian Drop Troops, 2500pts. of Militarium Tempestus with either Astra Militarium tank support or Raven Guard support and 2500pts. of a Xenos faction.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Why would you need more then 2000 or maybe a bit more of models ? You want to paint them different , but have identical armies ?

Basically the idea is to have enough points of one army to where I can run variety of lists out of it. The only question is do you guys think I would be better off with one Guard army and one xenos army or the three army option.

2 larger armies imo. You'll have two armies with lots of versatility that are more fun to play rather than 3 armies that are almost always the same.

Depends on your meta as to why he has that many. My previous meta before i moved to nebraska was around 1500-1750pt games, which is generally enough to bring 3-4 big toys without fear of having no troops to score with. At my current one a game below 2k is rare, and AT 2k is just as rare lol i usually play 2500.

My orks have way too many unassembled models thanks to an ebay deal i found. I had i want to say around 3000pts of them (though they were random models) and wanted to buy some more to get a bigger list with models that actually work together. Found 1250USD brand new factory sealed orks for 700. Couldnt resist lol. Most of them still have factory wrapping a year later.

My tau arent that bad actually. Most of them are 2nd hand from ebay i got before the new dex hit, or suits i bought for next to nothing that needed renovating (some of those crisis suits were so bad it almost gave me nightmares lol). Though im trying to paint them before i buy more. I want to include barracudas into my tau, but i have 9 crisis suits, hammerhead, skyray, 2 riptides, 6 stealth suits, Farsight, Shadowsun, two devilfish, and 16 pathfinders i need to paint before i buy anymore to add to that waitlist lol. Technically a little more than that, but i dont think i'll need 50 firewarriors unless i goto a huge game, 40 is enough and 16 kroot is not enough to even bother bringing.

Anyway, back on topic lol, the amount of points you should buy for an army depends on how many tactics you want to use and how big a game you want. 3500pts doesnt really include everything, though it probably gets pretty close until you play games at 2k-2.5k or higher.
Orks pretty much swap their entire freakin list when i change tactics, thats why i have so many orks lol. If i wanted to run bikerlists one day but a wagonlist the next, thats quite literally 4k points of models to play a 1750pt game since i swapped out a LOT of models on the shelf.

I don't limit myself, personally. I like the flexibility to field a variety of lists for each army I have.

In that vein, I'd go with fewer armies and more flexibility, so 2x3500.

You use lol WAY to much.

Back on topic. I'd go with 2 huge armies. I've got maybe 4000-5000 of Orks and I'm not stopping until I get to at least 10000 with some extra Apoc units.

Once that's achieved I might branch out into Astra Militarum, or Space Marines but until then DA ORKS IS DA FOCUS.

I'd say stick with 2 armies as is. If you want to ever play Apoc then buy more.

Edit: You have no idea how much trouble I as Bolding and Italicizing those lols

Points is hard, it really depends on what point levels people play at in your area, 1.5k - 2k is common in my area so having 4k models+ is nice to have some list variety, though my dark angels have 8k+ now because I want to field a lot of different things.

I have 2 armies(dark angels and necron) I play a lot, I also have my blood angels who really don't get used very often anymore.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

Yeah, i know its a side-effect of the way i talk. If i were to speak that i would legitimately chuckle where i said lol. Thats how you can tell someone has a bit of a subconscious problem when they can TYPE that way and not notice (almost did it again...). People point it out when i talk to and thats when i get conscience of it and starts to drive me nuts that it comes out before i can stifle it down.

Sorry to derail thread abit.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think you have done a good job helping me decide that only x2 armies of 3500pts. each is the way to go, now the only problem is which xenos faction do I go?!

They are definitely in the running since my local meta has only x1 other Dark Eldar Player, basically now I get to debate the following xenos factions as my second army of choice, however will be honest the Eldar and Tau armies im leaning towards so I would not have to buy as much :

-Dark Eldar
-Orks
-Eldar
-Tau
-Tyranids

40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.

You might want to consider daemons, got a massive buff from 7th edition. And also you can ally together for a lost and damned army which is always cool.

Everything I say, barring quotes and researched information, is my personal opinion. Not fact.

Given 7th edition, None.

Browse the codexes pick what you like and pick 1-2 troops and 1 hq for each, rinse and repeat.

If you like imperial, browse all battle bros codexes and pick and choose you can not go wrong, like thunderifires, pick 2 scouts 1 librarian or special name liby and max out thunderfires, rinse and repeat what ever you would like to play with.

Wait for the new Ork Codex before you decide.
And Both Eldar and Tau will garner much hate from your opponents

Dont care about this, people need to toughen up and stop complaining about these armies, they are not as bad as many people make them out to be. Instead of complaining maybe think of ways to beat them instead.
