It seems that Sniper Rifles have lost Rending but still are resolved at AP2 on a Wound roll of a 6 - so from my understanding the only difference from 6th to 7th is now they can only Glance up to AV10 correct?

That is correct. They also lost pinning.

For IG I don't really see that as a big deal, considering we have Suppressive Fire. Still a pretty big nerf though.

The list of reasons to bring Space Marine Sniper Scouts just got a lot shorter.

Not really. You still bring them to more easily wound things like MC's. One or two sniper rifles means nothing. 5-6 means wounds on big critters.

Yea, but an occasional pin, and the option to help out in taking down a rhino every once in a while HELPED them being useful. now there isn't even that.
Extra value is just that-extra value. when its not the main job of the unit, just something they happen to be able to assist at. and snipers lost much of their extra value.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

I think GW just wanted them to be more focused on Infantry killing, as opposed to halfway decent AT. But even then I wouldn't have gotten rid of Pinning.

Yeah not really sure why they nerfed snipers. Tau sniper drones and IG snipers were the only ones, afaik, that actually were dangerous. But nobody brought sniper drones because of foc limitations, and im not sure why but i rarely see IG snipers too. Yeah kroot snipers are nasty but why would you shoot them at vehicles? thats killing armor saves and MCs, which losing rending doesnt hurt in the slightest since its still AP2 on a 6. At first i was excited i saw Str4 against vehicles, then it hit me that they didnt say Rending, they said AP2 on a 6. Then i went...fml...lol

Never a fan of making Pinning harder to get, especially when they buffed pinning (afaik its still considered Gone to Ground involuntarily, rule wise. meaning a pinned unit, cannot overwatch). Snipers were pretty much the only pinning gun that got used on non-fearless or vehicle models lol (or bikes). Almost everything i have in 3 codices that has pinning, never gets to use it because of the targets they want. Only exception with the new sniper nerf, is gun drones

I often used Scouts to keep units pinned down until my Terminators could dispatch them.

I really liked giving my Platoon/Company Command squads Sniper vets, gave them some crazy reach with Pinning and and didn't have to have them move up too far.

This would explain why they're so damn cheap in the IG codex. Mass-pinning with multiple 36 point SWS can't happen anymore.
